Rear Brake Pads Change

Hello everyone,

Yesterday, I changed my rear brake pads. The problem is that when I pull the handbrake, the wheels are not being locked in...they are still going. The car eventually stops but not as before changing the brakes where the wheels were locked instantly when I was pulling the handbrake. Do I need to bleed the brakes? If yes, how do I do that? Is there anything else I need to do? Would anyone be able to help me with this one? Cheers.

Changing the pads should make no difference to the handbrake, did you change the disks as well?

The handbrake is mechanical and works by a cable pulling on shoes inside a small drum in the centre of the discs so no need for bleeding. Handbrake shoes need adjusting to reduce travel.

No I haven't change the disks. How do I adjust the shoes to reduce the travel? Is it hard to do that? If you could explain, it would be great. Cheers

remove the wheel and you'll see a wee rubber grommit remove this get a torch turn the disk till the wee hole is at the bottom shine your torch through the hole youll see a wee cog

turn the cog till you feel a slight drag when turning the disc job done!!!(if turned the wrong way youll increase the handbrake travel)
