Helloooooooooooo

Recommended Posts

Hello. My first post,so be nice as i'm a single mother of 2!! (ones my 6 year old lad,the others my 35 y/o bloke!!)

Just bought a 53 plate lexus is 200 se ,traded in my lovely C2 GT!!!

Have had her for a couple of weeks, am really impressed. Thought it waa a bit posh for me but have soon become used to the idea of having a car of this class.

Am I doing something wrong as am getting loads of miles to the gallon?

Read loads of horror stories as per fuel consumption but so far so good!

Should add car has 40k on the clock and full Lexus service history.

Is there anything i should be looking out for or should i just enjoy the ride!!!

Anyone on here do services, parts etc?

Thanks for reading my first post.I'm loving this car. :)

welcome to LOC. fuel consumption really depends on how you drive. the most i had to 60 pound is 400 miles which is good an the worst i have had is 280 miles to 60 pounds worth of fuel so really depends how you drive

Welcome to LOC! :D

Depends how you drive, but fuel economy isn't great if you use the car mainly around town - my auto only gives me 20-21mpg ;)

However, if yours if giving you good mileage then that's great! If it's got full Lexus service history there shouldn't be too much to worry about, but when it hits 6 years you'll need to get the cambelt done (but if you have it serviced at Lexus they'll tell you that)

Thanks for the replies.

Quick question about the forum. How come i have to click the replies at the bottom of the page???Why don't they scroll down in one like other forums,or have i got a setting wrong!!!!

It really is a nice surprise to get a decent MPG,a real added bonus to such a lovely, lovely car!!It looks great,it drives great.Made up.

Is the cambelt a definite on a certain mileage??? The other half has an Avensis and its crap compared to mine  ,but seriously he had the cambelt done at 60k,so is it roughly the same?

I think you may have it on a different view setting, I know there's a way to change it but can't for the life of me remember how you do it!! Hopefully someone else will be able to sort it shortly!

Re the cambelt, it used to be longer, but Lexus recently revised the cambelt change for the IS200 and made it 6 years or 60,000 miles (whichever comes first) as they found them wearing prematurely. It's definitely worth having done on time as it's one thing you really don't want to fail.

It's pricey from Lexus, my last service was the one including the belt change and it cost £700, but the belts can be done for a lot less if you go to an independent garage.

Lol @ the avensis - he's going to be wanting to use your car from now on!

At the top of your first post on the right hand side is a drop down box "options" click that then click "standard" under display modes,

mpg can vary quite a lot, i've only been getting an average of 22-25 out of my auto but my first long run to wim yesterday I achieved a whopping 36mpg.

Welcome single mother of 2 !

Don't worry they are all a friendly lot on here, providing you keep them in line from time to time !

Enjoy your Lexus, I am on my second, there's lots of advice for any of your problems...you have already read about the Cambelt at 60000 ish miles, you will also read about WIM, this is short for wheels in motion, run by a legend in IS200 circles who fiddles with your settings which improves your handling and makes your rubber last longer (can't be bad!) Chester is a fair way away from topside of London though...so check with the forum if you are having tyre wear problems or more info...apart from that you stand a better than average chance of driving a more or less trouble free car....I love 'em.

If you like to 'make progress' like I do, you will find the power comes in at above 3500 rpm...accelerate right thro in 3rd

and you should feel the change at about that point....not exactly brill for mpg though.

Welcome,

As for the forum, click at the top right hand side of the first post and select display mode "standard"

Welcome to LOC :D the main thing is getting the Cam belt and stuff that goes with it done as others have said, there's a place in Glossop called Charlesworth Motors or something like that a few of the guy's on here have used and from what I gather there very good and quite cheap, but if you only have 40k on the clock you wont really have to worry about that for a while yet. Couple of other things if you have the 5 spoke alloys watch out for corrosion, and also watch out for ERR3 on your stereo.

As whine lovers car is a 53 reg the timing belt should be replaced within the next 12 months (60k or 6 yrs) ... plenty of time to save up! :whistling:

Oh yeah keep forgetting it's 2009 :duh: best thing to do then is get it checked by your dealer and ask their advice as it's got full Lex history and only 40k, bet they say get it done tho :whistling:

Thanks again for the replies,it seems a very handy forum.

Regarding some comments on the Cam.

Is it best to go through Lexus service centres and maintain the full lex service history or is this the right place to ask for help regarding cheaper options for the same job??

I will sort some photos out asap btw!!

Personally speaking I would say that a full dealer history on any car is not worth the extra that you would spend on having it serviced there, but a service history from a good quality garage is.

I use QR Sport in Tattenhall to service both my van and my Lex.

I agree that these days a dealer service history, especially once a car starts getting a few years old, isn't really going to have much effect if anything on the value of the car.

The important thing is evidence that the cam belt was changed, not who did it. I would get it done at an independent specialist if I was you, will be a lot cheaper than getting Lexus to do it. Or even getting Toyota to do it will be cheaper than Lexus.
