Engine Tick Over

the taphits/tick over what ever is the correct term, seem to be getting slightly louder, cnt here a thing when im inside the car but outside i can here a ticking! now i no that its obviously going to make a noise, but it seems louder than other IS's that ive seen. is there anything i can do that would make her a bit more quiet!? tbh its done about 90k so i dont expect it to sound as new! any advise, much appreciated! cheers

Do you know what oil is in the engine? Chances are its probably 5w-30 spec oil. If you want to quieten down the engine change the oil for a thicker grade, such as 10w-40.

5w-30 is fully synthetic oil where as 10w-40 is semi-synthetic oil. Most people use 5w-30 oil in the IS200.

i suggest u have your valve clearance checked. if yor car has more than 80-100k miles just have it checked it myt be e reason

my is200 ticks aswell will get checked by toyota soon or any garage could check it

yup, my engine ticks too, gonna give it an oil change next week. Not sure whats in it atm might put some 10-40 in it.

They all tick fairly loudly!! Hydaulic taps don't need adjusting - but they can fail, but then you would hear a much louder tap!!
