Installing New Head Unit And Using Standard Amp

Hi guys. Im just about to install a new dvd head unit in the Lexus. Do you have to by pass the standard amp or is there a lead that allows you to still use the amp with an aftermarket head unit???

you need to buy a wire of eBay cant remember whats it called and then you would be able to put a aftermarket head unit in.

This is the lead to bypass the amp mate, but lets you use all of the factory fitted speakers with an aftermarket headunit, but with most aftermarket stereos you can fit a new amp if you desire and upgrade your speakers/add subs at a later date :)

but if you have sat nav in your car you will have to keep the stock amp

If you have OEM satnav in your car, then you'll need an additional box of tricks otherwise your satnav won't work any more once the new head unit is connected.

Another LOC member, Fargo, makes them and sells them on eBay from time to time. Someone else posted up some details of how to make your own solution, in the thread here.

thanks guys. no sat nav :( any one know where i can get the sat nav screen holder but with out the screen in it so i can fit my own if you know what i mean lol

Its just not worth it, The pre-amp in most modern stereos are better.
