There are min/max markings on the dipstick- look again.

For reference, the IS200 takes 4.1 litres of oil, but I find a 4 litres brings it to the MAX level when doing a oil/oil filter change.

According to the official spec sheets on the online workshop manual, the amount of oil actually varies according to model year, no idea why !

It also depends whether you change the oil filter or not.

For example, for manual transmission, it's 4.2l for 1999 models if you change the oil filter. But in 2002 this changes to 3.8l !
