Hi guys.

Wondered if anyone on this forum could help....

The MkII Toyota MR2 turbo's (up to Rev 5), are all of them on UK roads imports from, presumably, Japan???

Am i correct in thinking they are twin entry turbo's and not twin turbo, producing about 240 bhp as standard??

has anyone owned one/does anyone own one?? if so, what are they like and what is there to look out for on them? the only one i've ever been in was Mike Morse's sonic shadow tubbie, and that thing was absoloutly mental!!

assuming they are imports, does it make them a greater expense to insure??

cheers in advance.

My bro has one, currently running about 550bhp at the wheels. I thought there was a UK turbo version but i could be wrong??? My bro's one is a import.

Might be worth speaking to James at ToyotaGT, he is a speacialist in the MR2 so will be able to tell you everthing about them you need to know. He is a member on here so you could message him, although he is usually always busy :D

Cheers Jason. From what i've managed to find so far, I can't see any mention of a UK spec MR2 turbo. only the N/A versions, GT-T etc etc.

I've spoke with james from TGT before, but not related to MR2's. Hopefully he'll see the thread and advise further.

cheers

They are all imports, all have the twin entry turbo, so some misleading titles like "twin turbo MR2" can be heard on chat rooms etc They are just as reliable as the N/A one, it is a Toyota after all!! I had one for a short time until a thief wrapped it round a tree, Insurance is a bit steep but so is the performance :P Great cars and £5K will buy a stunner.

thanks mate for that. as i suspected. is the insurance steep purely based on performance or is it notched up even more because its an import (basically what i'm asking is are import cars generally more expensive to insure?)

anyone know of any nice examples for sale?? when i searched for MR2 turbo on autotrader there's only about 8 within 80 miles of me - of which half look like high mileage stinkers!!!

Remember that it's an engine from one of these that Yeldarb is having put in his IS200 :D

:shifty: :shifty: :shifty: may be going to the tuners next week if the rest of the electrics are OK and the tuner has a gap big enough:shifty: :shifty: :shifty:

James is always getting offered MR2 T's for sale, well worth calling or dropping him a PM. I am sure he can look one over for you if you find one you like?? I would love one as a "toy" again.

As for insurance all imported cars are a few extra pounds to insure, shop around and you will get a good deal.

very well dude..i moved the air filter up into the n/s vent as well plenty cold air!

the v6 is a very simple swap and easyer to do than converting it to a turbo..

Thanks.. The lights are US domestic market .. they were only £60 odd shipped from the states.

Intercooler sits in the engine bay, some people run them in the boot. My intercooler is useless as it suffers badly from heat soak, after you've boosted it a couple of times on a warm day, you can feel the power drop off considerably.

I will have a new project on the go soon which will be very similar but charge cooler and BIG turbo. Another Mk1 with a later spec built 3SGTE.

Mk1s are best B)
