Yep totally stupid to not run again, but the times really did tumble fast towards the end of the session. Amazing how close the cars really are in qualifying..........

Fantastic again for Button, interesting how wherever Brawn goes can't seem to get away from winning ways! I was talking to someone the other day that could Brawn be the start of one of the great teams.............in 10 years will we be looking at Brawn as one of the power teams like McLaren.......... :whistling:

Can't believe they did it again! How stupid is Ferrari now that Brawn has moved on, it's not even like they had nothing to lose, Kimi was in 5th place so totally ridiculous to put him on full wet tyres (not even inters) on a totally dry track! His engineer must have been drunk, or Ferrari have decided they don't want any points this year.

Fantastic race though (while it lasted) and despite the half points another fantastic result for Button - 100% so far, hope it continues! :D

Yeah that did seem like a particularly stupid decision by Ferrari, switching to full wets on a dry track. Even as a gamble, it was an absolutely huge one, because a couple of laps on the dry tyres and he'd have lost so much time he might as well have stopped again, not to say that he'd also have destroyed the tyres.

Why on earth did they wait so long before abandoning the race though ? It was surely obvious to all that it wasn't going to restart, and even if it was for reasons of TV coverage I don't really see how ages of watching the cars going nowhere was really helpful.

It's obvious in hindsight that it wasn't going to restart, but they needed to be absolutely sure they couldn't possibly restart. They only needed to do another few laps, behind the safety car if needs be, so they could award full points for the race as opposed to only half points. The race was stopped at roughly 2/3 distance, to award full points it needs to have gone 3/4 distance.

Yep think it was a combination of hoping they'd be able to run enough to award full points, and also this way they wouldn't have too much backlash from TV companies and advertisers as they did appear to leave it till it was absolutely not possible to continue.

Have to agree it was obvious it wasn't going to restart though.

They had to run another 9 laps for 3/4 distance and the lap times in the wet were at best around the 2 min mark and they have to give the teams a 10 min warning before the start of the race

SO

When I went to school 9x2 was 18 mins plus 10 mins makes 28 mins plus at least 1 lap behind the pace car another 2 mins so I make that 30 mins so which idot only deceided the race would not run with 9 mins left before the 2 hour mark when it was obviouse that the race was over 30 mins before the 2 hour period

ALSO

The rules state that when a red flag is thrown the results go back 1 full lap before the red flag is thrown.

They seem a little rusty on the rules after the winter break.

Good race with quite a bit of overtaking, well done Brawn and Button.
