Hi guys,

As I've previously mentioned, I bought a second hand 220d in Feb. I had a look at the oil level today and it seems high. The oil colour is also as black as black can be! The oil was changed late Oct 2008 as per the service and I doubt the previous owner would have needed to touch the oil between then and when I bought it.

Should I be worried about this? It's my first diesel, so I'm unsure about the colour of oil etc.

Advice and experiences would be appreciated.

Matt

I *think* the colour of the oil is ok.

Diesel engines always make fresh oil look dirty (quickly)- this is what my friend tells me (he is an Audi tech who looks after my dad's 03 A4 1.9 tdi Sport 130).

If the oil level is high, why don't you drain out the excess oil? Or get a garage to drain out the excess oil?

As long as it is between mion and max on the dipstick all should be good.

Dont worry about the black oil, that just means its doing its job of cleaning.

Cheers

Guy
