New Boy - I'm Scared

Recommended Posts

Hello All - I dont have an IS200 but I am planning on getting one / or the running gear at least and then grafting the entire thing to this

My Mk2 Escort RS 2000 Thunder Saloon Replica

What do you think?

Will it work ?

What do the boffins say? any problems I am likely to run into?

I need a shedload of info before I go ahead and actually do this so - any feedback positive/negative at all is good - dont be shy - I wont be

The car has taken 4 years to build but still loads more stuff needs to be done

well...

1 - is the engine bay long enough big enough?

2 - enough clerance for the gearbox and shaft.

3 - Rear drive diff .... issue.

4 - engine / box mounts

5 - electrical wiring / using existing loom or replacing.

thats just the starting .....

The 1g-fe unit out of the IS200 has only 153bhp- I wouldn't call it a powerful engine, its more of a lazy engine ideal for cruising.

Have you considered using a 4 pot engine from the Altezza RS200 or even a IS300 engine? They are both more powerful than a IS200 engine.

1 - is the engine bay long enough big enough? - Should be - if not I can always cut and Chop (not afraid of the angle grinder) :whistling:

2 - enough clerance for the gearbox and shaft. - Wide Tunnel can be fitted/Fabricated no probs

3 - Rear drive diff .... issue. - please explain?

4 - engine / box mounts - again - I should be able to fabricate something to fit well.

5 - electrical wiring / using existing loom or replacing. - this is the only thing I have no clue about!!

whats the deal with the ECU - has anyone fitted Carbs/throttlebodies on these engines if so where can I find the info ( point me in the right direction gents :winky:

Cossie - is too expensive plus I like to break away from the Norm!! I have driven the IS200 and I really get on with it - but again this is an information gathering session so my mind may be swayed....

cheers for the comments fellas -

What capacity is the IS300 engine?

Cheers

you will have no problem fitting the mechanical bits, i know of 1 chap who fitted a complete is200 subframe with diff shafts and axles into a hot rod...so you will have no problems there

regards throttle bodies, i did look into doing this, and i managed to source quite a bit of info on fitting them.

i was using throttle body's from Jenvey, but they are not cheap, then run a stand alone

is300 is 3 litre,

cheers Guys - IS300 - straight 6 - quite a nice sounding engine - not sure on the whole budget of one of those - have to watch what I am spending though

can get a gs300 for under a grand but all gs and is300's r auto's so would have to get a gearbox from a n/a supra

Ive done 2 engines conversions into diffrent cars and i would say lexus running gear and engine bad idea. In that Ford you need a Ford engine or a light engine. I belive the best production NA engine is a k series VHPD engine or the VVC engine. the hole engine and gearbox weights 125kg and 160hp from factory or 190hp for the VHPD. Hense why kit cars use them and Lotus, Areial Atom etc. Also the complete K series can be picked up for £300 plus around £75 for a good ford gearbox and the adaptor plates are also cheap.

Carnt see why you want want to use a Lexus engine? Wiring would be a Nightmare. But if you have your mind set then good luck.
