Cambelt Changed :-)

Recommended Posts

Had my cambelt changed today at Charlesworth Motors in Glossop, as my lex has now done 96k miles, So thought it was way past time it was sorted plus now the Superchargers fitted it gives me piece of mind that its been done, :D

The old belt was still in very good condition with very little wear even though it had done a few miles? :whistling:

Had the Cambelt, ldler and tensioner done for £185, so well pleased with that and the guys used oem parts too :D

Good job done and hopefully a few more miles to come from the old girl yet :)

Is this your first cambelt change..? cutting it a bit fine if it was.... :whistling: :P

Not sure to be honest mate, the belt that came off was in very good condition which makes me wonder if it had been done before?

But i do keep a very close eye on things like that and keep check on the condition, so knew it wasnt in a bad way? but now i know its been done and it'll be safe for some time now :D

Blimey that is cheap considering Japarts want £145 for genuine belt, idler and tensioner!

What do people here recommend getting done? Independant Toyota specialist near me quoted £195 for renewal of the belt alone.

Id have thought its worth doing the tensioner and idler at the same time? Seen as most of the time these cause probs rather than the belt actually snapping.

Ive seen a genuine belt and tensioner on eBay for £75.....and an independant mechanic (timing belt and cylinder head specialist) quoted me £160 to fit.

What do we all rekon I do?

The parts i paid for yesterday came to £103.17 inc vat and the labour was £80 inc vat, thats for the belt, tensioner and idler fitted, so really paid £183.17 :)

So looking at that quote you've had for fitting i'd say it was quite high?

Could be he's not sure what he's doing, (i mean whats needed to come off etc)

where as Charlesworth know exactly how to do the job well.

If its a timing belt and cylinder head specialist like he says above mate, i'd think he'd have a good idea? :D :whistling:

Think Simon at Charlesworth could do them with his eyes closed now

I have been there a few times now, (Supercharger fitment, Exhaust, Anti-Roll Bars amongst other things)

I'd very happily recommend Charlesworth for the work they have done on my car :)

Billnick where in Kent are you mate ?

Albin B Motors in Beckenham have been used a few times by members of LOC, but I have never used them.

It may also be worth asking them for a quote ?
