Hi Guys

Sorry for the basic question but it does not say in my owners manual.

I have just recently had an auto gearbox oil change and just went to check the level and with the engine cold I removed the dip stick and the levels are just above the HOT mark.

I supplied the oil for the garage because I wanted the proper oil TYPE T IV as we all know is the only correct one I gave them the container which had 5 litres and they used half of it which makes sense as it takes 2.4 litres for a complete change.

Could a member give me the proper procedure for checking the levels,on the dip stick it has Hot and at the very bottom a C which I assume means cold,I can't understand why the handbook gives the engine oil levels but not the auto gearbox checking procedure.

Drive the vehicle so that the engine and transmission are at normal operating temperature

Fluid temp : 70 - 80 °C (158 - 176 °F)

  1. Park the vehicle on a level surface and the set the parking brake
  2. With the engine idling and the brake pedal depressed, shift the shift lever into all ranges from P to L range and return to P range.
  3. Pull out the dipstick and wipe it clean
  4. Push it back fully into the pipe.
  5. Pull it out and check that the fluid is in the HOT range.

If the level is not within range, add new fluid.
