Hi all, we are in need of some advice.......

Earlier this year we looked at purchasing an Rx300/350, we visited our local Lexus dealer who was initially very helpful and told us of 2 vehicles which they had due in which would be in our price bracket. The salesman advised us that they would be available for viewing the following weekend. He contatced us during the week and we arranged a time to view............ we went at the time agreed to be told that neither of the vehicles had arrived, no apology no real reason BUT they did have a new vehicle we could test drive!!!!!! As we were there and so it was not a complete waste of time we agreed to go. Loved the car RX400h, WAAAYYY out of our price bracket though.

The salesman then said he did have an ex demonstrator which was coming up, again way past our budget, which he knew as he knew the vehicles we had originally wanted to see. When we explained this to him he seemed to lose ALL interest and basically made us feel small and not worthy of his time.

Anyway to cut an even longer story short we ended up buying an Audi A4 Avant, 07 reg, nice car, we do like it but are missing the higher ride position which we had in our previous car VW Touran. We both are wondering about the RX's again!

We have seen locally an 04 plate RX300 SEL Navigator, 65000 miles and an 06 plate RX300 LE (ICE PACK) 18000 miles, obviously there is a money

difference but could any of you offer any advice on the best way to jump........ should 65000 miles on an 04 plate concern us as this vehicle would need to last us a few years, it is not from a main dealer but does have FSH from a Lexus dealer.

Are there any gremlins we should look out for?

Thanks in advance

Confused of Yorkshire!!

Welcome to the club.

I really wouldnt worry about the mileage, the engines will go on and on.

As long as the Services are upto date and everything checked when it should be (cam belt etc) then everything should be fine

Welcome to LOC!

As the others have said, I wouldn't be too concerned about the mileage, if it's got full Lexus service history and it looks like a car that's been well looked after then there shouldn't be any problems.

However given the current climate and the way large engined 4x4 type cars are depreciating, I'd recommend going for the newest you can stretch to - older cars are holding their value much better so you're more likely to get a better deal on something newer :)

Thanks for that,

Could you tell me when the cambelt would be due?

Word of advice.

It sounds like youre buying from a dealer and its should be OK. However, if youre buying private, bear this in mind that happened to me on SUnday...

Here's a copy of a mail I ended up selling Trading Standards...

Dear Ms *****, as discussed I went to look at the following:

Autotrader Ad: (Deleted for this post peeps ;) )

I cant remember his name. Little Asian guy - about 5ft2 tall so not hard to remember!

He said he needed to leave the country this week (tomorrow) so Id be quick!

BMW 2003(03) 330d SE. 87k 1 owner from new. Up for £4700. Said he'd take £4500 as he needs to money quick... Hmmmmm

The car itself is in good condition for the miles I think. Had a bit of paint on the rear tho, but Id done a Text CHeck on it and it came up clear so all good.

MOTs as such:

18/3/07: 73687

12/3/08: 80451

6/5/09: 87605

Service history (there are8 entries but Ill just give the later ones):

26/5/06: 53882

27/3/07: 64301

15/2/08: 74286

18/2/09: 85185

Now, look closely (like we did) and youll see an annomily(sp)!!!

MOTd 18/3/07 @ 73687. Serviced 27/3/07 @ 64301!!!

Serviced 15/2/08@ 74286. Motd 12/3/08 @ 80451!!!

Err, so not only has it LOST miles in the space of a month, the following year its done 650 odd miles in 11 mths and 6000 the follwoing mth:wack:

Needless to say, I walked away and thought I would call the reputable BMW franchise tomorrow (service shut on Sunday). In the mean time I went on the VOSA website and checked the car via its current MOT...

I advise ANYONE to use this in future!

You will need the Reg and basically the log book / current MOT Cert number.

For this car (and I suggest you try this)

Reg: MA03 NYZ

Test Number: 571926829113

Have a look (copy and paste)

Or if you want - heres it copied and pasted and what they say about the car:

This completes the test history for the above vehicle as recorded on VOSA's MOT Computerisation Database

If it hadnt have been for the Service history annomily, I reckon I might have had it. It looked legit mileage wise.... :wack:

The service history was all from BMW Stevenage 'Specialist Cars Ltd' 01438 ******. THey have never seen the car but the BMW database confirmed it was last serviced in Feb 2009 @ 168k miles.

Let me know if I can be of any further assistance, but Id rather that you made a call to him and made out you were intersted in the car and went from there, rather than just turn up on his door and use my name etc as proof....

Thanks

Matt

Use the VOSA site if you can. Could save your *****!

Hi all and thanks for the welcome,

Just to update you, we pick up our 04 plate RX300 SEL next weekend.

Went to view and test drive today, lovely car, really pleased and looking forward to the Lexus experience you all seem to enjoy.

We will no doubt be needing some of your guidance with "stuff" in the future.
