Worth Changing Plugs Or Not?

My car hasnt had any ATF, or diff fluid changes since 2004 when the cambelt was done.

I'm getting a quote for a full fluid flush using correct fluid from a specialist in Norwich, as if its not to dear say under £200 ill get them to do it, I dont want to risk cocking the job up as its my daily driver.

I will change the diff oil and flush the engine oil, and put in good quality oil, as I have a sneaking feeling the garage just sucked out the old oil and filled up with new.

I wondered if it was actually worth checking and changing the plugs, distributor caps, rotors, fuel filter etc, as the car drives and runs fine and I'm getting an average MPG of 26.

oil fiter wont cost mcuh mate. and depending how long before you had the plugs change.

Oops I forgot to say that I will be taking the Lex of road in a couple of months, so I can drive the wheels of the Renault before I hand it back next year :)

So anywork that needs a pit needs a garage before then !

Also what its the correct grade of oil for an LS400 Mk3, and I wondered if I should be going for the oil ' for higher mileage' engines.

Ive got no worries with changing the oil and filters, it was more from the view of if the cars running right and MPG is okay, is there any real need to do the rest?

Hi if its running fine I would leave it till next year( apart from oil & filter change) when the cambelt needs replacing again then you have no worries for anouther 60k or 6 years.

The 'unofficial' word from Toyota is they class the LS400's to be run in at about 90,000 miles, so I wouldn't bother with high mile oil untill it has at least 300,000 and only then if it's started burning a little.

As for the ATF, make sure you get the proper Toyota stuff.

Fully synthetic Havoline 5W30 oil is on offer at Morrissons supermarket petrol stations at around £17.00 for 5 litres ( just enough), running in mine with no problems but I would buy a genuine Lexus filter.

If you are changing the plugs be careful with the leads as they are a bit fragile.

Pretty much what I was hoping chaps...... I had to replace some HT wires on my old 750Il as they fell apart when removing them to change the plugs.

On the up side, I'd get some Manecor plug wires made up as they should be better than standard.

Just a tip here,the standard plugs wires are very thin and are like this to fit into the clips.

If you go for non standard you may have to "modify" the clips ( break some out) to take the wires and there aint much room to fit them especially in the bridge that goes between the distributors.

You should also get some special grease which you put in the plug caps making removal easier the next time.
