Dear All

I have just given my car for 60k service. Negotiated hard to get the cost of the big service down however I was told I need to replace the front brake discs and pads; its below the minimum/legal limit. I got a final price of £310 all inclusive for the discs/pads - this is the first time I had to replace since I bought the car (new)

couple of questions:

a) Now, my warranty has expired and with all the issues with Lexus (rattles, recalls etc) I am planning to take the extended warranty. Going through the forums, i realise that the warranty covers brake discs? I havent taken the extended warranty yet, but was wondering if its best to take that on Tuesday and claim the brake discs work through this. The only problem is that I have already paid for the brake discs on Saturday. Is it possible that I buy the warranty and claim it back if i speak with the dealer?

B) Suede Interior - Lexus charge £120+VAT for professional valet service whereas the Car cleaning specialists up the road charge £60. However I was not sure about the local cleaners with the suede interior. What do other members think?

Sorry if this has been covered before.

Many thanks in advance.

many thanks

warranty dont cover the disks how you want them covered!!warranty covers corrosion on the disks and warping but not wear and tear which is the cause of yours being below min thickness!!also their is no legal limit for brake disk thickness!! also warranty dont ever cover brake pads unless they know theirs a problem with them ie brake squeel!!

so short answer NO you cant claim the costs back!!!

as for your interior if they are Car cleaning specialists they will know how to clean it!!

Very slightly off topic, if the discs needed replacing due to warping or corrosion, would the pads then be replaced FOC as it would become neccessary to replace with the pads.

...this is the first time I had to replace since I bought the car (new)...

What worries me is that the brakes have been left to run down so far - it is not only dangerous but also shows that the car is not regularly checked to ensure road safety for other users. But however, lets say you have managed to eek to 60K from your first (and only) set of brakes - yet you want Lexus to pick up the cost of replacement...why exactly?

If you want to take the Lexus extended warranty option then you must do so before the factory warranty expires. If it lapses, by even one day, then you cannot get the Lexus product.

As for cleaning, never had suede/alcantra so cannot say. Lexus Milton Keynes charged us £45 for a full internal valet so £120 sounds steep to me (this was an RX with full leather - experience posted on this forum).

If discs are being replaced then yes pads need to be replaced as you cannot use 'old' pads with 'new' discs.

yes the pads may have to be replaced BUT at a cost to the customer!!!!! just the pads you pay for not the labour!!

i work for one of the main dealers in edinburgh!!

Not so, my factory warranty ran out 31 Dec and not until March I took out a Lexus extended warranty (special offer - 15 months for price of 12) with no problem.

Dear All

Many thanks for your response. The car has been regularly serviced by Lexus since new without fail and its the first time I was told that the brake discs need replacement. I missed the point about 'wear and tear' and thought the dealer was trying to recover the costs of the service (he brought it down by £250). Its now been all sorted and probably my fault not trusting the dealer!

The extended warranty can be taken any time, even if there was a lapse between the two policies. For peace of mind and the unexpected rattles, I think its worth it.
