hi everyone

i have just been pulled over by the police who said my front windows were too dark and illegal. As far as i know my windows are standard and havnt been altered from the factory. Can anyone shed a ray of light on this for me?

Its a 03 is200 sport

thanks, ryan

all models have a slight tint to the windows

what many tinters do is put a legal tint on, but combined with the original tint it may well put it over the accepted levels

I do believe that to dark a tint is a safety concern, you wouldnt wear sunglasses at night .......would you ?

As standard both are tinted, however the front wil be a lot lighter, so sometimes not niticably so, the front as standard will be allowing over 70% light in.

As said above do your windows match front and rear? Did they use a meter on your windows and if so what was the reading? They don't necessarily have to and can go on opinion albeit it'll be then need to be proven should you disagree.

As said by BAZZA, the reasons are because of reduced visibilty, more so in bad weather and night time, like wearing sunglasses you wouldn't do it, can be put under 'vision obscured.'

On the standard front windows of any IS model the police would not have told you its too dark. As someone has said before the previous owner must have got the fronts tinted. Any aftermarket tinting of the front windows is illegal - there is no "legal" tint.

Has the law changed again on the front tints? I spoke to Pentagon a few years ago and they said they couldn't put anything at all on the fronts, and then again about a year ago when they said a light smoke on the fronts is fine.

Also my dealer had a car for sale with light tints all round (again fitted by Pentagon) and both confirmed this was legal.
