Replacement Valet + Master Key (also Vibration Issue)

hi guys

First time poster so be kind

I brought a lexus is200 that came with only 1 master key

Im in the london area and would like to get another master and valet key that is oem spec / grade is there anywhere including lexus that can do a good job for a reasonable fee ?

Also there is a overall vibration coming into the car (gearstick shakes quite a bit when car is warm) , its constant and happens in neutral , had gearbox , prop shaft , engine mounts ruled out by a friend but he did notice a new front portion of the exhaust had been fitted so could this be the problem ? , any places that are good with is200's in london ?

thanks

Hi!

I would be inclined to drop your car off at Albin Motors in Lower Sydenham, not far from London Bridge. (ABM Motors) They are an independent Lexus/Toyota specialist.

Kevin, the owner will be able to sort any key issue out as well as look at the car for you and test drive it.

On the subject of the key, any Lexus garage will also sort it out but may charge you more? Official costs of a spare key (with blipper) about £150, so I hear.

Check out some other threads on this forum and youll see a more DIY version where you buy the key off eBay and reprogramme it yourself!

Hope that helps

joe

You can get spare keys off eBay and as long as you have the master, you can reprogram the keys yourself as you have a master, and get the blade cut at a key shop (not all do them, but there are certainly some that do - try the search facility on the forum).

I would be surprised if the exhaust would cause vibration through the gear stick. Is the car firing on all cylinders ok? Not an IS200 owner so can't help any further. What year IS is it?

yeah i did not want to start tinkering with reprogramming even though im an IT teacher by trade just dont want to mess with anything that should be done to oem spec , plus i hear a lot of owners who went the diy route with the keys have had issues , blades causing damage to barrell etc

i have a is200 s on an 2005 plate

As for the vibration im going to get albin to have a look (actually was in contact with albin before my thread on the forums but nevere manged to get round to them) they say i can get another master for £200 so i may go down that road as long as its to lexus quality standards.

One bugbear i have though is that my car doesnt seem to be able to play mp3 cd's anyone have any information on this as its drving me insane ): on a 2005 model surely it should be able to do this ?

might have to use a cassete to ipod adapter if not

thanks

Sounds an expensive option. The ignition barrels on the IS are a known issue, with Lexus keys too, so I suspect it is coincidence with cut keys and the stories you have heard.

Yep as above I haven't heard of any problems with using eBay keys, you'll save yourself a fortune if you buy off there and reprogram yourself which is very straightforward.

If you're in north london, I've also heard good things about JEM in edgware.

The stereo doesn't play mp3 CDs so that won't work - best option is to get something like the gromaudio ipod kit - simple to fit and a proper hardwired connection into your stereo from your ipod. Will also let you control the iPod using the stereos controls.

the is200 does not play mp3 at all on the standard radio.

i would call bull shi on the story of aftermarket cut keys damaging the barrel. if the key is cut to the original then no problem and it of course has to be cut to the original otherwise it wouldnt work. the barrel is well known to fail - it will lock in the ACC position and you can remove the key when in that position. give the barrel a good hard tap and it should free itself, then order a new barrel as it will fail again.

I ave removed and stripped and cleaned the barrel only for it to fail again after some weeks - the wafers bind against the housing, this is not just a simple case of dirt in the lock it is metal to metal contact and binding.

thanks guys

ok so any help in terms of what i need to do if i c=go the eBay route , i am worried about screwing things up as i just bought the car plus what hardware do i need to reprogram ?

An idiots guide with links with links would be very helpful but yeah i haven't managed to get the car to albin yet so we shall see what happens but lexus take the p as they want £200 + whether its a master or valet key i asked for !

i might even track the owner down he did say he would send me the other key from china but blanks as yet

thanks

again

Glad you are getting it sorted, no point having your pants pulled down by the dealer for nothing.

Your shaking "could" be the same as mine as your symptoms are similar.

My main input shaft bearing on the gearbox worn, causes a lot of vibration but thats it. I was quoted £600 for a repair but picked up a replacement gearbox for £50 on eBay. Just waiting to fit it now.

i hope im not quoted £600 for input shaft but im sure my mate who checked it over said it wasnt the shaft as it does the vibration when in neutral , with shaft not engaged although i could be wrong , also a new issue seems to have popped up today , i get more cabin noise and outside noise than usual in the car all of a sudden , dont know whether im going mad or its normal i can hear the engine rev at 30+ plus i hear outside noise more loudly , i closed the doors and boot again just incase they were not shut proper , so well see tommorow but i hope this issue isnt related to the vibration
