Squeaky Door Locking/closing

Recommended Posts

My 2000 LS 430 has just developed a squeak on the right rear door when it is locking or self-closing. Bit of a shock when everything is normally so quiet!

Probably just needs a drop of oil, but anyone know exactly where to apply it?

Thanks

Chris

My 2001 LS430 has had the same problem with the driver's door since I bought it. The dealer has looked at it two or three times under warranty, and have lubricated the lock to no effect. They say that it's caused by a cam in the locking mechanism rubbing against the body of the mechanism. They reckon that if you hold the door handle open and lock and unlock the door a couple of times, it'll move the cam round and stop squeaking. I haven't tried this yet, so I don't know if it works.

The dealer solution is a £400+ lock mechanism replacement, so I decided to live with it. By the way, if it's like mine, it get worse as the weather gets colder. :(
