Want To Buy A Ls400, Some Questions

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

I'm looking to buy a 1998> Ls400.

What are the most quiet and Comfortable tyres on the market?

Where can I get these wheels? Do they have a part number or name?

Can you change the gold styling on the outside to silver?

I want to use my IPod. Gromaudio have a product that looks good. (http://www.gromaudio.com/ipod.html)

I spoke to them and they asked me do I have a cd changer in the glove box as the iPod product connects to the cable instead of the cd changer. Do the 1998> models come with a cd changer?

Thank you so much in advance.

Martin.

Hi Martin welcome to the LOC.

Here is a link to a good resource website I don't know if these wheels are the same but if not do a search with the year and model on the site.

If I remember correctly the standard tyres were Dunlops D?8 maybe.

I think the LS has a glove box CD multichanger so the ipod shouldn't be a problem.

Hi Martin,

Any quality tyres are good (everyone has their favourites). The wheels are 17'' DHP model. These were also fitted to the early LS430's. The badges are easily changed link. The CD changer is in the glovebox, so no problem. Good Luck with your search, a great car (had mine for 2 years, loved it)

Unable to source the D8s, I now run on Falken Ziex. They are slightly more comfortable at low speeds and noticeably quieter than the Dunlops. Also, better traction in the wet. Well pleased with them !

IMHO, dont go for a DHP car, the tyres are horrendously expensive and you will probably find that only Pirelli make them (170 + per tyre). Yes the DHP cars look better and yes they also handle better, but the LS is all about comfort, so even though I had one and even though I loved it to bits, I would recommend a standard LS for a buyer, especially a first time buyer.

Yes you can easily change the badges from gold to silver, silver badges are common on E-Bay.

If you want to add the Ipod, but keep the CD changer, then you could use an FM modulator, its a box that runs in the aerial line of the standard radio, which has a pair of sockets on it that you can plug any audio source into (at line level).

It would not have the controls of the Gromaudio fitting, but its also only a tenner off E-Bay.

Yeah, I'd noticed the cost of those tyres. Luckily mine came with a set of brand new ones on! Typical price online seems to be about £220 each. Pirelli and Bridgestone do them. Pirelli are the cheaper ones! The OP was interested in getting an LS and fitting the DHP wheels, if you are going to suck up the price of those tyres you might as well have the rest of the package and make use of them!

My DHP is plenty comfy and goes like whatsit and handles nice too. IMO best of both worlds, and you pay for the extra I guess. You "makes your choices and you pays your money" accordingly.
