I have just bought a LS400 Mk1. Blimey!!!!

Last car was a Golf MK1, Fiat 126, Golf Mk2, Volvo 850 x2 , Vauxhall Vectra v6, Vauxhall Frontera, Alfa 155, Fiat 126 X5

Skoda 120, Peuguot 405, Daewoo Tico, Datsun 100a, Vw t25 Camper, FB Vauxhall victor, Austin Maxi x2, Citreon CX, Alfa Alfasaud, Tabot alpine, Talbot segora, Ford Searra x 3, Cavalere x2..........

At last I have a car that is nice to drive. I am in love.

Worst car I have owned: The v6 Vectra, not because it breaks down, it was fast, nice engine noise, but boring.

Best car, this Lexus so far 'but only had it 24 hours Time will tell ;-)

Favourite apart from the lexus. Mmmmm Tough, between the T25 Camper and the Fiat 126, both great for different reasons. Golfs were great too though.

Am I the winner of the worst cars ever owned list??

could turn into an interesting topic this.

although in my opinion, you cant really comment until you own up with your own list of previous cars! :winky:

so here goes (been driving just over 5 years btw),

1st car - MK3 golf gti, pushing 180 brake and a massive sound sysytem (hey, it as my first car)

2nd car - st202 celica gt4, fairly standard apaprt from the usual filter, dump valve, exhaust, rims and springs

3rd and current car - is300, standard bar a wheel refurb (saving for a wedding so mods 'on hold')

cant really pick a favourite, theyve all got their plus points for different reasons, everyone loves their first car (I for one have definitely been 'bitten by the bug' and will own another gti again), the gt4 was an animal when driven hard, and the lex is so refined and comfortable.

oh and yes, the list does read quite bad, but with a few VW's and a couple of 850's in there, i'm sure people have had worse!

Okay i'm only 26 but i've had my fair share of cars over the years, here goes:

1st car - D '86 Mark 1 Toyota Corolla 1.3 gl in red, i had just passed my test, managed to find a mark 1 GT in a breakers and transferred all kit and interior into mine, i was too young to be thinking of engine swaps back then !! Admittedly it was my little chav-mobile !!

2nd car - J '91 5th gen Toyota Celica 2.0 gti, in white. I was only 19 when i got this, and it was the best car ever !! So unbelievably reliable, i kept it for 4 years !!

3rd car - F '89 Mark 2 Honda CRX, black 1.5 dual carb import. Glassroof model. I saw this advertised as spares. I managed to get the full (although it was a lil' multicoloured and missing parts) car for £300 !! This was a nice little project for me, i sourced all the parts and had it resprayed etc. The car was looking sweet . . then i sold it for £1,500.

4th car - D '86 Mark 1 Honda CRX, in white, 1.6 16v. With one previous owner and only 50,000 miles on the clock. I got this for a bargain price of £1,000. I absolutely loved it, the car has great character, its soo tiny and a rapid little motor. I kept it a while and got offered £1,500 so i sold it - but i have yet to drive a little hot hatch which was as nippy to drive as that.

5th car - J '91 Mark 2 Honda CRX, in white. 1.6 16v VT. Having sold the mark 1, my mate offered me this at a good price as he was going travelling. So i got it for £1,600. I put some of my own touches to it. But i got to the stage where i wanted to buy something newer, so i managed to sell it for £2,500. I had put a fair few rare extras on it.

6th car - J '91 Lexus Soarer 4.0 V8 GT Ltd in peal white, one of 880 made in the world, with low mileage. This i managed to pick up for £1000. It was an absolutely amazing car - so many gadgets and gizmos. It had been decat, upgraded back boxes and induction kit, so you really heard the v8 roar !! But fuel economy was poor !! I can't buy a 4.0 and complain about fuel though !!! Anyhoo i saw another Mark 2 CRX VT for sale, and managed to get a straight swap for the Soarer.

7th car - H '91 Mark 2 Honda CRX, in white. 1.6 16v VT. This was the result of a straight swap with the Soarer. Having owned CRX's before, i decided this one is for keeps. I always seem to regret selling them !! So this is my little long term project. I have got some red Recaros in there aswell as other tasteful mods. I get stopped a lot in it and people making offers to swap for silly cars, or offering me silly money for it. But i know what i 'could' sell it for, i'm keeping it because i just love them.

8th car - P '96 Series 1 Lexus GS300 Sport, in metallic black. Now aswell as my CRX i now own this rather grand and luxurious Lexus. A nice combination of cars to be driving. I can see myself owning both cars for a long time now, and should i get bored of it my old man has it eyes set firmly on it. An absolutely lot of car for your pennies!!

So that was my rather comprehensive list of cars !!!!

I must say im kinda jealous of the Alfasud and the Datsun 100A! I admit i have a mild fetish for a banger, my head nearly twisted 180 degrees earlier when i see a rusty old Rover SD1.

Im 30 but have not had many cars at all. I like to keep a car until i see its spectacular death. So my cars to date:

1985 1.1 Ford Fiesta with XR2 alloys, tacky pinstripes and horrific plastic headlight covers - Death by cracked engine block after attempting to race a Ferrari Testarossa down the A6 at 105mph.

1989 1.4 Citroen AXGT - Death by being rear ended whilst breaking hard to chase after some kids that were throwing bricks into the road in front of me (which i did quite an astounding job of avoiding).

1991 1.4 Citroen AXGT Sportif - The most fun car i have ever owned! Tiny, made of some metal similar to a coke can but was able to destroy every chav in a Nova or XR2. Death by driving a 150 mile round trip on motorways at least twice a week usually at 115mph (another cracked block and a huge cloud of smoke).

1995 Rover 220 Coupe with removable glass roof panels - Bomb proof engine, suspension like springs from your nans bed. Leaky roof, leaky boot, leaky footwell. Needed a 15 inch sub in the leaky boot to drown out the deafening wind and road noise on motorways. Death by 7 years of abuse trying my hardest to kill the engine until eventually the head gasket went (but it still drives, its sitting outside in a carpark waiting for disposal).

2001 Lexus IS200SE - My now-2-days-of-ownership car that i intend to look after as best as possible (no more silly driving. . . . . . unless its raining and im on a private road maybe).

I should mention that i may have driven fast at times but in 12 years of driving, doing on average 500 miles a week for work, i have only ever had 3 points on my licence. I dont drive excessively fast any more. If you wish to drive fast then please save it for the track.

  • 2 weeks later...

Great topic - 44 years old and my list is as follows:

VW Scirocco 1.6GLi - 1980 - blooming brilliant!

Audi 80GL 1.8 - 1984 - also quite good - I'd probably never have bought another car if this hadn't had someone run into the back end of it when it was parked outside my parents' house.

Volvo 760GLE 3.0 V6 - 1985 - complete rubbish, cylinder head gasket blew after about 2 months and the car was uneconomical to repair

Ford Sierra Sapphire 2.0 iGLS - 1987 - potato (bland but filling) and the easiest car to steal in the world, ever!

Rover 414 SLi 1.4 1991 - boringly rubbish (and unreliable - don't get me started!)

Nissan QX 3.0SE - 1996 - utterly brilliant in every way, reliable, fast, inconspicuous and safe (someone ran into this car at 60+ miles an hour and my ex wife survived with minor bruises!).

Peugeot 206 GTi 2.0 - 2000 - excellent (company car - so I wasn't worried about the dodgy electrics and could just drive the nuts of it!)

Rover 623 SLi 2.3 - 1994 - one of the best value cars I've owned, bought it for £2700, sold it for £1800, drove it for 4 years and 40,000 miles, never went wrong, amazing.

Renault Laguna II 19.dCi Dynamique Sport Tourer - 2002 - AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!!! This car was, without a doubt, the most expensive automotive mistake I have ever made. I bought it new (import - £17k, saving £3k on UK list), sold it 3 years later for £5k (ouch!) and spent about £6k in servicing and repairs over that period. RUBBISH, RUBBISH, RUBBISH - I defy anyone to have a worse car.

Audi A4 1.8T Sport Quattro - 2001 - Good car but rubbish dealers spoilt the experience a bit.

Nissan Maxima QX 3.0 SE+ - 2002 - bought to replace the Renault (and because I'd had the previous model). Everything that I said about the other one applies again. Tens of thousands of miles of trouble free comfort able motoring.

Jaguar X-Type 3.0 SE - 2003 - Brilliant. Up to this point the best car I had owned. Fast (very), comfortable, reliable, safe, 4wd (good in winter) and.... it's a Jaaaaaaag! Lovely, plus the dealers are second only (maybe) to Lexus.

Lexus GS430 Mk III - 2005 - So far - best car I've ever owned. We'll see if I feel the same after the first service.

Currently I would rate my top 4 as Lexus, Jag, Nissan(1996), Nissan(2002).

Bottom (by a loooooooong way): Renault.

Cheers,

Mark C

Cars owned in order:

1 - 'M' 1995 Peugeot 106XND - 1.5 Diesel. Utter crap.

2 - 'R' 1997 Toyota Starlet - 1.3 Petrol. Lovely well built car, and still going strong today (I know the current owner)

3 - 'V' 2000 Toyota Avensis - 1.8GS. Great car with wonderful economy considering it's overall performance and size

4 - '51' 2001 Lexus IS200 SE Auto Navigator. My wife says it's the best car we ever had. She loved it and didn't want me to get rid of it

5 - '06' 2006 Honda Accord 2.2CDTi EX. My first (and probably only) brand new car. I was amazed by the performance and economy. It really makes the IS220d look terrible. Wife thought it was too big though, so I only kept it about 10 months.

6 - '53' 2003 Lexus IS200 Sport Navigator. Back in the IS200 shape my wife liked, but a manual gearbox. Only kept it for about 4 months as I got a good deal on car number 7....

7 - '04' 2004 Lexus IS300 Navigator. What a great car. Shame about the economy. So much fun to drive. Highly recommended if you can afford the running costs.

8 - '57' 2007 Toyota Prius T-Spirit. After the running costs of the IS300, I fancied something a little more frugal. Really enjoyed this car and I did find it good to drive. It had the multimedia toys of the IS250/220 range and I got over 50mpg most of the time. Once achieved 67mpg on a run from Sheffield to Cardiff. £15/year road tax and free parking in Sheffield was also nice.

9 - '55' 2005 IS250SE Auto MM. My current car and my favourite of them all. Easy and smooth to drive through town. Quiet and refined. But, fun when I want it to be on the open roads. I've had it for 10 months so far, and no sign of swapping just yet.

Not a bad collection for 11 years!

were to start with this one start with the worse i guess 1976 Austin Maxi. Was bought for a charity run we went for a Maxi adventure had to be better than a Mini adventure. Lots of car inbetween rover coupe turbo modded out of its face 0-60 under 6 secs top end 165mph still got this one. another rover coupe i never even sat in (bought it for spares for the turbo). Toyota mr2 1985 model i bought 5 years ago drove it home put it in garage never moved it since. 1972 escort van removed engine stood it for a year sold it still got engine. 1969 mark 1 escort started out as a 1300 ended up 2000cc twin 48 carbs stripped out plastic windows 2 bucket seats roll cage everything. Toyota previa,Honda stepwgn, rover 214 ( bought for numner plate which was given as birthday present to brother in law) 1985 escort cabriolets 2 of them still have one, mitsi evo 4, 1998 mondeo, transit van. 2600 non turbo sky line, E class merc estate with 260,000 on the clock rolled on motorway at 120mph after the nutter in the passenger seat grabbed the wheel as she was "bored" (sideways at a buck 10 is a while load of brown adrenalin). sure theres loads i have missed. Company cars everything from a 85 esprit turbo to 98 golf 1600. Best car driven... close between ferrari 355 and lancia delta intergral. First car was a 1985 mini next came a datsun cherry that i traded in for a mark 4 cortina 2 door 1300 ( wish i kept this one very very rare car only ever seen the one). Funniest car ever was a fiesta van 1800 diesel with xr2 body kit purple and blue tiger stripes and the words Vanny magnet on the back. Inside we used to chalk up our scores if your still 17 and drive round cruising at night you will know what i mean by scores.
