Do Not Sell My Personal Information Jump to content

Hi there I am the proud owner of a new old 96 reg ls400 always wanted one after a friend of mine had one years ago, picked one up for next to nothing, I've got to say that I'm thoroughly impressed after being a long term BMW owner.

I've got a few common problems like brakes an control arms that I am getting fixed. The only thing that I cannot find any info about are my front seat belts that are completly loose and do not recoil. Can anybody help?

Many thanks,

bhusan.

Hi and welcome to the LOC.

I have never heard of that problem before but it will need sorting firstly from a safety point of view and secondly it will result in an MOT failure.

Has the car been involved in an accident? as the seat belts have a pretensioner system using an explosive charge which once activated cannot be reset and the belts have to be replaced ( are the airbags original?).

Obviously they can be bought at Lexus dealers but you need a large bank balance or either look on eBay for a breaker or contact Maurice ( username: benfur) on this forum who usually has some spares.

Interesting! I have a similar problem but I think it is a different cause - the belt retracts but the buckle doesn't does slide down the belt, so the belt retracts then hits the buckle and won't wind in any further. It's as if the gap in the buckle for the belt to feed through isn't wide enough.

You've scared me with the idea that my car has been accident damaged, so I have looked into this a little more, it might not be that bad...

... seems that seatbelts may need servicing over time. Has anybody done this on an LS?

I've just got off the phone from Lexus, and a new seatbelt is only £47 each, not the scary £300 that I was expecting. Have just ordered a pair, and will post some photos once they are done.

this is great news - will keep an eye on this post
