Bluetooth And Ipod Kit For 2004 Sel

Recommended Posts

Morning,

I've not been on here for a long while. Was a happy owner of a 52 plate IS200 until Friday, at which time i part X'd it for a 2004 RX300 SEL with 39k on the clock.

About a month ago our family grew to a total of four, so the teeny boot in the IS wasn't cutting the mustard.

The RX300 is being delivered on Tuesday :) from Lexus Croydon

My problem is that i understand the Mark Levinson audio system does not support Bluetooth or ipod/iphone.

Just wondering what people think a suitable Bluetooth kit would be? Perhaps one of the Parrot's i see advertised everywhere.

I'll probably try to fit it myself as i managed to fit my last Sony Ericisson B/T in my IS ok.

I've been reading these forums and see the ipod kits people are raving about are about £200 all fitted which might be a bit expensive for me right now.

Does anyone know if the Mark Levinson hifi supports MP3? If so i can probably live without an ipod kit and just get a decent Bluetooth system

My wife has an Iphone 3G and i own an HTC Hero.

thanks in advance :)

Adam

Hi Adam,

For MP3/iPod duties I installed a Grom audio adapter. Check out my post here.

Other solutions (e.g. VAIS) offer a more integrated experience but this was quite a bit cheaper and suited me just fine :)

thanks for the reply noman i'll take a look. though my prime requirement is Bluetooth for safety.

i just came across this whilst googling and looks like it would coverboth my ipod and Bluetooth needs in one hit.

i'm seriously tempted to go for the parrot mki9200, though Halfords have told me they can't fit it to the RX as it's not possible.

I may try to fit this myself if it's possible to get the full funcationality going through the car speakers.

Is there good instructions floating around for removing the dash and stereo etc?

car arrived this afternoon at home so very excited to get this done soon.

I've heard good things about the 9200, it's very similar to the kit I have in my IS200. There's no reason why it couldn't be fitted in an RX, did they explain why?

something about the amplifier in the mark levinson unit.

both Halfords and a local in car specialst said no. i spoke to parrot uk and they said it's possible but requires specialist knowledge.

i just tried the hifi and it doesn't play mp3's on cd - so i'm a little miffed.

any ideas gratfully received

Yep I think only the very newest RXs (after the 300 became the 350) play MP3 CDs..........

It says you're in NW London, are you near Park Royal? There's a place there called Autoaudio who are brilliant, they just fitted (literally a few days ago) a Kenwood satnav in my sister's mini and they have a fantastic reputation. Worth giving them a ring, if they say it can't be done then maybe it can't.

They aren't cheap, but at least you'll know for sure what your options are.

they are not far from me at all. i'll give them a try tomorrow thanks :)

i popped to costco tonight and picked up a parrot slim (plug n play). awesome bit of kit for under 50 squid. voice recognition is spot on.

i may settle for this and opt for the vais kit people are raving about for ipod/mp3 playback

The 52plate rx300 has a tape deck...does yours?

If yes then just get a £5 tape adapter from tesco or a better one from a proper shop and plug it into the mp3player headphone...works great and very good quality sound.

You dont really notice the wires (cos you're driving) as they hang down in the center console.

And you wont need bluetoooth as modern phones have very good speaker anyway

Im very suprised that a 2004 Lexus has no audio input..tut tut

Slightly :offtopic: but that was the reason given why they couldn't integrate my phone instalation through the cars speakers. My car kit needed an external speaker fitting. Only problem is when I am blasting my stereo I can't hear the phone ring, must remember to turn the auto answer off otherwise the caller gets an earful of my dubious music taste.

If you look in the autoleads catalogue, there are tons of telemute leads that say they are compatible with the RX - so none of those work on one with the ML amp?

Dunno, but I was told the same when they installed phone in my IS that had a ML stereo. I think the sat nav screen also caused a problem too.
