Keyless Entry Question - Warming Car Up

Recommended Posts

Hi Folks, I have a 2006 IS250 SE. This is probably a stupid question, but how can I lock the car whilst it is running (to defrost etc) on these cold mornings?

I've noticed that I get a warning (key not detected) if I leave the key in my pocket whilst I leave the car running, so any tips advice on how to do this safely would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks.

also be reminded its an offence to leave a running unattened vehicle on the highway - hopefully you have a parking area on your private property

It's still illegal if it's on your drive isn't it?

Think on your drive is fine. Obviously if key is in the car and the door is open and it's stolen then insurance won't pay up. But I guess they could smash the window if the car was locked and still pinch it ( subject to deadlocks etc. ) so it still wouldn't be covered.

Don't really see how this is an issue. If you get out of the car, the warning beep goes off, but engine still runs. Why would you want to leave a car running if you are any further away (eg: indoors)? Personally, I think people who do this are highly irresponsible - same as people who leave their keys in the ignition when paying for petrol. Additionally, as Steve has pointed out, this also invalidates your insurance. Because of this, the Lexus keyless entry/start-up system is excellent.

Guessing this is only if the vehicle can be driven away as remote warm up is starting to become a feature on more cars nowadays....
