Remote Boot Opening / Ram Issues On Ls

Should the boot on an LS430 pop open completely when you open it with the remote?

Just mine pops open but only moves an inch. To lift the boot up , it is very stiff. There is a strap on the left hand side that makes me think that it might pop open fully and close again when i hit the remote but that is probably wishful thinking! What is the strap for? And do the rams get weak on them?

I think I remember reading somewhere that the boot on the LS (all models) is designed to only pop open an inch or so, rather than all the way. This is so your luggage doesn't get too wet if it's raining.

Hmm maybe so , it's my first LS so unsure. It's very stiff to lift up , must be something not right all the same

Yeah, that doesn't sound right. It should still open easily when you lift it.

Mines the same too, really heavy to lift but very light to close.

It is supposed to stay where you put it when you open it. Counterbalanced.

mine was v stiff to open, then fell shut. Diagnosed by this forum that the gas struts were shot. Replaced by Lexus under warranty. It's better, but the whole boot-lift boot-closing experience is not what I'd expect of a luxury car. It's still stiff to open and stiff to close.

Mine just pops when using the remote release - I think that's how it's meant to be

sounds like your gas struts are gone - common problem

Thanks for the link , just checked out their site there and am about to order a set of struts. Hopefully that'll do the trick!

Hi. This is correct. The boot lid should just pop up. There are no powerful springs there to pull it all the way up.
