Once again the dreaded snow is gonna rear its ugly head.

I herd on the TV that the METOFFICE is sending out the most severe weather warning for 100 years. Apparently almost every part of the country is gonna get a nice sprinkle of the lovely white stuff.

Be careful people, we all know just how fun the lexus can be in the snow, especially the Auto,s amongst us.

Take Care people.

I meant to be driving from Basingstoke to Peterborough at 6am tomorrow, anyone in the Peterborough area with an update on the snow there?

We've been dumped on in the Cotswolds, and it's still coming down. I was surprised my wife made it home from work in the IS200 Sport. If it wasn't for the placebo effect of putting the Snow button on, I think she would have walked back  . Said she'd never been so scared in the car.

Looks like my IS200 will be staying on the drive for a little while yet.

Same as mine mate!

Boss is never to happy when i say i cant get in. He just tells me "well , everyone else has got in".......*****! He just doesn't understand the is200 snow problem! :tsktsk:

What are the main problems you are having with the snow and IS there? With decent winter tyres it handles the snow just fine.

We've had very heavy snow all day in Liverpool. The result, complete gridlock in the City Centre and in the Mersey Tunnel because cars were gridlocked on the other side of the river. Gritters have been out (bus routes only) but it was completely inadequate for the snow fall. All I can say to those in the South is if you can possibly avoid going out tomorrow, don't go especially in an IS200.

We should ask you why not? My work vehcle is fitted with Winter tyres.....

Just been on Goodyear website. The Eagle f1 tyres i have are not intended for snow and ice. That explains why my is200 auto wont move in 10cm of snow on a slight incline,so those suggesting Winter tyres are correct.I eiter use the wifes peugeot 206 which is great in the snow and ice or £400 plus on new tyres.Inow looking for new tyres my better half just informed me 20-30 cm due tomorrow in the south

I must confirm from my own experience that tyres change a lot the driving on snow/ice. I got my car with user Bridgestone Blizzak LM-25 tyres (225/45 R17), even though they are supposed to be winter tyres (M+S), they failed on deep snow to provide decent traction. Recently switched to Bridgestone Blizzak Nordic WN-01 (205/55 R16). Of course, these have more tread on them as of today, but they definitely perform much better on deep snow than the ones I had before. I think the width of the tyre could also play a big role in this case.

I'm in Liverpool and it took me an hour and ten minutes to do the usual 8 minute drive to work. Got stuck on the way and had to dig myself out. Then stuck again in the works car park which wasn't gritted - another digout. Then after going home couldn't get the car up the drive which has a very slight incline. Spade out again to clear a path - what a nightmare!

The snow button is useful on ice but next to useless in snow. The IS200 seems to be more prone to wheelspin with the snow button on than off. Anyone had similar experience?

I read earlier that putting a lot of weight in the boot of a rear wheel drive car can help the rear wheels grip better. I may try this tomorrow, assuming I venture out again.

Also, as posted previously by somebody on the forum, you might try to lower the pressure in back tyres - that should provide a bit better grip too.

Thanks, doing some reading up on the forum and the must-dos seem to be

1. Put some heavy weight in the boot (e.g. bags of sand)

2. Lower rear tyre pressures

Also read:

- turn off traction control - not sure how this would help

- use snow button - although it's debatable how useful this is

Im in Scotland and its been off/on for weeks now-I have used my manual IS most days with no bother-just put the Snow button on stick it in 2nd with no revs and off she goes.

On the other hand my father in law got his auto IS stuck on his steep driveway-I went up to move it for him, what a palava that was.

Manuals rule :whistling:

What speed rating do you go for with the Bridgestone Blizzak Nordic WN-01 on your IS200?? Thanks

I used to drive a 2CV when I was learning to drive and it was brilliant in the snow - lived on a hill and the guy at the top of the road used to have to leave his XJ6 Jag at the bottom as it was useless in the snow. The 2CV would just sail up no problem - they are pram wheels on them though ;)
