Front Windscreen Water Leak :(

Hi Peeps,

well i just went to change my road tax disc on my windscreen and i noticed theres a small puddle of water in the section where the cigerette light is and after close inspection theres a damp area just above the rear view mirror area.

My question is since its been snowing im guessing the snow has expanded the seals and allowed water to seap through it. Ive had issue with the seals in the past but not water droplets entering into the car. I did have issues with wind noise but wasnt willing replace the windscreen as i just turned up the music volume to drown the noise.

Im now worried that since a lot of water droplets have entered the car, how much would it cost to replace the seal or will i have to replace the entire front screen?

help :((

hi there the screens are bonded in so it will be a new screen as you cant remove them without damaging it.

You can't get a replacement trough your insurance company?

Windscreen is a essential part so over here we can get our windscreen changed with no loss of bonus and and only have to pay like £ 400.

But don't know how it's in UK tough

Ok guys heres an update.

Went to AutoGlass and they told me that its unlikely that its the front windscreen but suggested it might actually be the sunroof. He pointed out the seals arent flush all round and that also there could be a blockage in the drainage pipes hence why the water could have gathered up just above the rear view mirror area.

Ive booked an appointment with Lexus to get it seen to but they are going to need the car all day to sort it out. Just fingers cross its just the sunroof seals.

just an update.

well it wasnt the sunroof so no issue there and the problem was down to the front windscreen seal needing a replacement. I first thought they had to smash the front windscreen, but i was told it wasnt needed so im now a happy chappy as the wind noise problems ive had for about a year is gone and also no more water dripping onto my gear stick area :D Thanks Lexus Teesside!

I think the wind noise was a dead giveaway that the windscreen has not been replaced properly in the past - you're lucky that water hasn't got into the headlight relay as I think that's a common fault caused by incorrectly fitted screens.

Good result either way :)
