Any Idea What This Connect Is In My Boot ?

Recommended Posts

While trying to clean my boot out I found the following lead taped over itself ... anyone got any ideas what it could be ?

Sorry to be a pain but to this lexus thing and its certainly an experience ... my wallet learns something every day :whistling:

Many thanks

Iain

I'm fairly sure I have one (too dark and cold).

Its not to do with reversing sensors or to do with towing equipment, as I have both.

I'm tempted to suggest it may be a throw-back to earlier models which may have had the cd in the boot rather than in its own glove box.

Or it could be the lead for a mobile aerial.

There is a phone kit installed for a nokia (I am guessing a 6210/6310 interface by the look of it) ... were these standard fit for lexus ? Just checked the docs and its a may 97 ls ..... it's on the left side of radio on a bracket with a microphone appearing just above rear view mirror. (been tempted by a Bluetooth adapter but the car needs more tlc first !)

Pretty much full lexus history and there doesn't appear to be any "official" unoffical mods if that makes sense

Trust me to get an awkward one ...lol

It's for the phone aerial (imprinted in the rear screen like the heater elements). There's a cable from the aerial to the boot, and there's also a second cable from the boot to the armrest between the front seats. I believe there was a Lexus phone system which mounted in the boot, but the option was also there to connect the two cables together in the boot and use the external aerial for a phone mounted in the armrest.

Yep, my 98 had a lexus phone kit installed. The handset went in the armrest and the reciever was in the boot.

It was all operated by buttons on a panel on the steering wheel which also held the microphone, and was a Lexus optional extra.

it would have worked through the stereo speakers.

I say would have, because the technology was so outdated that it would not function, due to it needing a phone card the size of a credit card.

So when they build cars the wiring looms are all the same whether you have the extras installed or not.

The other end of that cable will be in the center console under the armrest, near the back vents under the box.

Once again too cold and damp to go out to check; but I recall it being on the drivers side.
