hi new to forum picking up 57 plate is220d 53,000 miles whats the recc timing belt change thanks

Hi and welcome to the forum.... I believe the 220D has a timing chain not belt, hence, should not need replacing for the life of the engine (some post say 100K or 6 yrs, but seems to be contended).

Keep the oil changes as the chain needs lubricating. There will be a tensioner but not sure if this is part of a service item.

  • 4 weeks later...

I picked up my Is220d last week (57 plate) I asked if it was belt or chain. Dealer told me it was belt and needed changing at 80000 miles. Maybe need to check this out as we are being told different things.

Look at and open up the link in my post. There's not only a photograph of a cutaway diesel  engine showing the timing CHAIN, but also a pictorial parts list showing the CHAIN. Your dealer is obviously confused.
