Photographs Of Rear Rear Shoes & Handbrake Cable

Recommended Posts

Has anyone got a photograph, or exploded view of the Rear brake shoes inside the wheel drum (if thats the correct term to use). I am looking for one which shows the handbrake cable inside the drum , and in particular how it sits against the back plate,

Thanks B)

umm, thats slightly different to mine (2001 Jan X reg - therefore a 12 00 car).

I don't have the item D bit I think - at least not that I saw recently when doing the rear discs. Is this a pic of the IS200 rear shoe arrangement? The hub looks different too.

Item 'D' is inside the wheel cylinder.

ahh. I only stripped mine down to your last picture!!

Interestingly, your images and arrows show exactly the same problem I am seeing - i.e. the shoe mounting plate is scraping the back of the disc.

Has anyone managed to find out why this is and how to rectify it? Or is brute force (by wacking the back plate) or living with it until it wears the only option?

I bent mine back with the aid of a screwdriver, and it didn't take a lot of effort to get the minimal clearance necessary. The plate on my IS200 Sport only made a noise when cornering, so there I didn't have to move it a lot to stop the interference.

It'll drive you mad long before it wears down sufficiently to stop the scraping noise.
