i was advised on my mot in march that the exhaust system is deteriorating slightly and that the heat shieled is loose.

looking at the worst case scenario(for budgeting purposes), any ideas as to the most economical way to replace the entire system(including the catalytic converter?)

if i was you i would go for a stainless exhaust system from the cat back as i have on my gs300 sport.i have had a powerflow stainless system forminw from cat back and cost me €530.00 pounds fitted from mr tyre in boston lincs.if you would like his phone no just let me know.

Is your car a 2003? I would get a second opinion as I find it hard to believe your exhaust is on the way out after only 7 years. A GS exhaust will last 15 years at least! Tighten the heat shield, that's all you need to do in my opinion. A slight deterioration could be surface rust, nothing to worry about.
