Creaky Roof Lining

Recommended Posts

update: took sunroof off completely, drove car and the creaking was still there.

then i gave the roof lining a good tug all around the edge of the space for the sunroof.

guess what? no more creaking.

probably only a temporary fix and creak may come back but for the first time in two years there is no creak.

fingers crossed.

I have a temporary fix for the creaking sunroof. Slide back the blind, and put your palm on the glass and push upwards a bit. Gently - obviously not too hard! You will probably hear a few clicks, and for me it seems to stop.

The other area that makes noise is the courtesy light but that will take a bit of faffing to sort out.

roof start creaking again the very next day.

so determined to get to the bottom of this, i went with the process of elimination, ie. took everything apart including roof lining.

i've finally sorted my creaky roof.

there's a black plastic track sort of thing. don't know how or why it's causing creak but it is.

by applying pressure to this, creaking stopped.

for the moment i've packed a bit of rubber into it very tightly but i'll be doing a better job soon.

the rubber does not effect the opening and closing of the sunroof.

i know the plastic trim around the sunroof makes noise for some people but mine does not.

now an attempt at adding pictures and hopefully this will help some more people on here

sorry i think that attempt with pics didn't work.

Yeah I tried pulling the lining but it didn’t make much difference. Also I did what Paradroid said and that does seem to work however temporary.

Maybe the Rubber seal is worn down or certain cars sunroofs closing mechanisms are a bit tighter than others, I dunno. Ill just have the music on loud to drown it out!

Cheers
