Brake Fade And Rx400H

Recommended Posts

Just had a fantastic weekend in Dalby Forest in the North York Moors National Park which involved a fair bit of going up and down steep roads.

No problem going up or down on this occasion but it did occur to me when I was coming down on the umpteenth time that I had my foot on the brake for much of the numerous steep descents. Putting the autobox into B had very little effect.

Is there any other alternative to just keeoping your foot on the brakes?

I didn't experience brake fade but I would be concerned that I would suffer brake fade if I was about to go down Hard Knott Pass in the Lake District which is much steeper and longer than anything I di at the weekend.

Have any other any experiences of this and any advice on the best way to deal with it.

I suppose the same applies in snow where the only option is to brake and there is no engine braking.

Is this a design defect/health and safety hazard?

The engine brake is not intended to stop the car but will have been having an effect. Don't misunderstand its intended purpose. You are talking about a problem which exists only in your mind and not on the car.

I use my RX400H in the Lake District extensively and have never experienced any problems on any the the many notorious hills.
