Egr Valve After 5000 Miles

Recommended Posts

It's been 5k miles since I last cleaned the EGR valve, my car was running fine and I was just curious to see how and if the carbon was building up.

also what might be helpful for other members is that the fact that the egr n some other parts in the engine and pistons which on the older models are suceptable to carbon build up like the above and mine up until the facelift are coverd by a 5 year warranty by lexus and if (you complain about fuel eco and using a lot of oil) they will get authorisation from the top to fit the modified parts from the post facelift model which dont have this defect

the reason nothing is mentioned is because i was told by a lexus dealer that they have guidelines to only apply for authentication to do the work IF the car has broken down due to this or if the car is burning too much oil, as it is a £3.5k job

mines going in for the modified parts once iv completed 1000 miles!!

dgman,

Interesting to see how much carbon etc the valve and manifold has picked up in 5,000 miles! I believe you run a good fuel (non-supermarket) and put through either a cleaner or the premium diesel evey few tanks?

Mine has just been done under warranty (again!) - reluctant to clean it as under warranty but you never know when it could go wrong! It was on the M6 toll last time...

bigmick,i run my car on shell standard diesel and millers dps4.i also have a spider tuning device which has been fault free and a good enhancement to the 220.i have covered 70k miles now without any breakdown and i use a lexus trained indy for my servicing so costs are very low.i personally think that a good italian tuning every month keeps the carbon levels down.
