100,000 Miles Service

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I like to look after my car, especially as I'm in it for the long term.

I have enquired elsewhere on the forum for Timing Belt advice but I was just wondering about things like shock absorbers, exhausts, etc. I think I can detect a little unsteadiness on her feet which might suggest the shocks are worn, do any other LOC members think I would get many more miles out of them?

Any ideas for replacements if needed please?

My exhaust has done the 100k, and I can hear no noises suggesting it's worn through anywhere. Are they prone to problems at this milage?

I thought I detected a little graunchiness from the handbrake cable through the handle in the last few weeks, is this a massive job or a known weak point?

Any other suggested jobs please?

Thanks for any advice chaps, and possibly ladies.

Nev

Replacing the shocks will probably give you little benefit unless its starting to get a bit bouncy or you have a leaky shock. The springs are probably a bit tired though at this mileage so you could do them instead??

I read on here a while ago that as well as timing belt, do the idler and tensioner as well as some other belt of something somewhere whilst down there. Plus some do the water pump while you have everything off. Thats up to you I guess as all adds cost and if you haven't had the problem yet the......

Exhausrt is stainless so should last a long time.

I wouldn't go searching for jobs and spending money where you don't need to though. Main things will be bushes etc or possible worn ball joints which are things to look out for rather than change needlessly.
