Slow Puncture Due To Corroded Rim

Recommended Posts

Hi guys

I had two slow puntures that needed to be pumped up every 3 days so when I bit the bullet and bought new tyres I had hoped this problem would go away.....

However, full set of new tyres later the two still seem to be going down (definately not to do with tyre punctures) i took them back to the tyre place and they whipped them off and told me the rims looked like they had corroded so they whacked some black paste on them in attempt to seal them up. This has imporved things but still need reinflating every two weeks or so.

Before I go back to them thought i'd try here to see if anyone ever had this before and if there's a suggestion for a permanent fix? Never heard of this issue before so was a bit surprised rims correded in this way.

Any help appreciated...

I can't remember where but I'm sure I've heard this before - will a refurb of the alloys sort it or have they said you need to buy new ones?

I;ve not been back agin since so I'm curious about what they will suggest really. I should have included I dont think a refurb would do this as its the middle section (core if you put your hand in the barrel behind the spokes) of the wheel that appears to be the problem rather than the outer rim contact where it meets the tyre that you can see.

Funnily enough i recently had the outfer face of the wheels refurbed. Where the peel back the tyre and blast/coats the spokes. FYI this problem was already existed before this was done.

When I had my wheels refurbed they stripped the entire wheel and re-coated it. This might be enough to solve the problem, try speaking to a specialist wheel refurber or even try wheels in motion.

I had same problem. I used that instant puncture repair stuff. U know the foam stuff. Nearly a year now and tyres have same pressure in them

Just come back from a tyre place after a slow puncture repair, The guy took the tyre off, brushed the inside if the wheel rims then coated the rims with this light grey sealant then refitted the tyre. He said that it is a common problem with the IS200.

In case it doesn't work, is your tyre still OK and which repair stuff did you use?

Just checked my tyre after 4 days. No loss of pressure, so the tyre place fixed it for a tenner.
