Hello / Car Washing Problems

Hi All

Just registered for the Club today, so thought I'd say hello!

Actually I do have a question for anyone that's reading - any responses appreciated. I'm a bit of an obsessive when it comes to car cleaning and I live in a very hard water area (Kent). I always have problems with water spots and streaks after I've washed my car; I've heard that using de-ionised water can make a big difference, so just wondered if anyone else has tried this and whether or not it actually made a difference?

Thanks.

Mark

I use an in-line 5 micron particle filter which helps a lot. Alternatively, try washing the car in the rain lol.

Hi I live in London and the water here is as hard as nails, but i've never had a problem in 20 years of washing the car, but then I do always leather off and NEVER use a garden hose to rinse off.

I do it all by the bucket and hand, can't beat it!

Hope you don't really use a chamois?

i was thinking the same,

also i use a garden hose to dribble over the car when rinsing as you dont get water spots then.

suppose everyones different

Yep I also use low pressure for final rinse and then most of it runs off the car, then remove the last few drops with a nice microfibre :winky:

Flash used to make a car wash hose add-on thingy. The shampoo part was useless but the "no-dry" rinse setting was very good (de-ionised). Think it's been discontinued now.

In the winter I don't worry since I usually get round to drying panels before the sun has got to them but in the summer i use this stuff - it's ace.

Thanks everyone, and sorry for the slow reply. After all this bad weather, the car is crying out for a good clean, so I'll try a few of the suggestions out - thanks again!

Easy way is to book it into your local Lexus dealer for FOC winter check and top up. They will vac the inside too! :D

I used to dribble water on the car so that you get a sheet of water which runs of as one big mass. But there's a better way,

Do NOT use a chamois for drying the paintwork. Save that for the glasswork only.

Instead, get a damp cloth impregnated with car wax and use that to displace the water as well as apply the thinnest of films of car wax. It's quicker and you get a glossier shine, without streaks.
