Gs300 Mkii Sat Nav Memory/data Loss

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Anyone help with this please? My GS300 Sport MKII Navigator seems to have developed alzeimers! When switching ignition on, screen is asking for a security code although i havn't enabled the security code option. If I switch ignition off after being on for 5 or 10 seconds then back on immediately, the system works fine, except it has lost all memory info including HOME, PREV DSETINATIONS, MARKED POINTS, CURRENT LOCATION, basically EVERYTHING...the map seems to default to somewhere near Gatwick airport and will take about 10mins to find itself again, the mileages all default to Km instead of miles etc etc.

I'm wondering if there may be a small knackered rechargeable Battery somewhere that provides like CMOS power when the car power is off, or maybe a memory chip....anyone help please its driving me nuts, i've searched the web to no avail?

Thanks

Had car since 2002, ie 2years old??

So 8+ years! That rules out checking with previous owner!!!!! Has it shown any signs of trouble previously or have you had any work done on the car recently? Have you contacted your Lexus dealer for advice?

Never heard of anything similar that I can recall. Does everything else work correctly on the screen, if so it could be that the disc is damaged/dirty/wet.

Hi dave, thanks for reply.

No prev problems, no work done prior to, just went out one morning and prob was there. Once it has fired up by switching off and immediately on again everything works fine inc sat nav, demisters, radio, climate. Its just lost all its memory...lexus suggested getting a second hand unit..great! I'm thinking of taking it out to see if there's a cmos Battery inside. I tried contacting a few sat nav repairers...none of them will touch it.

Cheers

Wooooooooo hooooooooooo problem found and fixed!!! Answer found on this site someone had same prob in 1997. Small fusebox in passenger footwell had a 15a fuse blown labelled "TV". A 15pence fix...RESULT! Never thought it could be a fuse as the Sat Nav was working???? The fuse must somehow protect the power source when the ignition is off?? Gotta be honest didn't know there were additional fuse boxes in drivers & passenger footwell. Happy days!
