Rx300 Screen In Japanese

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! I am new to this discussion group so I don't know if this is the appropriate place to ask this.

I live in Cyprus and I've bought a 1998 RX300 imported from Japan - (Toyota Harrier model) from a car dealer here.

The thing is that the LCD display is all in japanese and I dont know if there is a navigation system installed or anything else like TV reception. Does anyone know what I can do about it?

I've read something about a converter in one the groups. Do you thing there is some language converted somewhere, or would I have to change the whole thing? What can I get out of what I have now?

Hello everyone!

Yiannis, I guess that I'm in the same boat as you are (a Harrier 3.0/Lexus RX 300 owner, 1998 model, don't read japanese). I'm from Malaysia, a country that does not have an official Lexus presence. I'm just worried that I couldn't figure out what does what when I get the car so I'm gonna ask a few questions...bear with me :withstupid:

1. I've noticed a small rectangular red button on the gear shift area. In my car, the inscription is in Japanese. What does this button do?

2. In the display (Yiannis, I think that the 1998 model doesn't come with a full color navigator- I've seen something in a 1999 Harrier but not in a 1998 model), when it comes to fuel consumption, there is an indication of miles/liter. The display toggles from one reading to another and there are in total 3 figures. What are they and how do I interpret them (again, the descriptors are in Japanese)?

3. Would anyone be so kind enough to scan their 1998 Lexus RX300 Owner's Manual? I've asked the dealer from whom I bought the car and he gave me a- guess- Japanese Harrier Owner's Manual. I would need the manual for reference only, especially on how to operate the car and to use some of the awesome features. If it's too much to attach to this bulletin, you can always e-mail it to me at ckkoay(at)hotmail(dot)com <-- @ and . replaced to stop bots from automatically harvesting the address.

Alternately, if there are any Malaysians living in KL reading this, do get in touch with me if you have an English copy of the said Lexus/Harrier manual.

Cheers!

ck

the red button on the tranny stick should be the overdrive. just leave it on all the time and you should be fine. The info button gives you travel time (timer restarts everytime you shut down / start up the car), your average miles per gallon mileage, and the present rate of comsumption (if your sitting idle the reading would be 0 mpg, if you're coasting along without using the gas padal, kinda like when you're going downhill, then it'll read something like 100 mpg)

mpg = miles per gallon. japan cars might be kmpg?

anyway, don't quote me on it, but that's what those gadgets are for.

I found this site in New Zealand. CeeKay you might find this useful.

It's www.jpnz.co.nz

They are specialised in translating japanese cars owners handbooks in English.

They have some translated ones already for sale also if you look. I found one for the 1998 Harrier and I ordered it. I hope it will help a bit to understand some functions. I haven't received it yet. It's gonna take a while i reckon.

Did anyone find out anything else about converting the Japanese on the screen into English ?

Yiannis

NO NO NO NO..............

the red button is to disengage the gearbox interlock..........

do not press it thinking its an overdrive.

if you dont know what something does....especially a big red button dont give advice....you could kill or seriously injure someone
