Yet More 94 Ls400 Dash Questions, Sorry In Advance

Recommended Posts

Hello all, I know this subject has been flogged to death and the forum has been fabulous in helping me out with the usual issue. However my fat fingers when carrying out the repair managed to break the thicker black ribbon cable connector on th emain board. The pins themselves are intact, can the connector be replaced/repaired? Having replaced C212 on the daughter board and put it back together, I now have lights on the centre dash, heater/radio etc (Which I didnt have); but have not regained instrument illumination and have lost the needle illumination which I had before stripping. Whilst appreciaing I still have C142 and 147 on the motherboard outstanding to do is the ribbon cable which has been replaced with the remaining half of the plastic clamp to blame for the needles?

I had mine repaired by Chris Vince on here 2 years or so ago .......... he spent an hour with his soldering iron on his work bench and charged me £75 .......... and it's a super job done !

He is expert at it and has done many of these repairs.

Maybe, if you wanted, ask me for his contact details. He is based just off the M3 ( if I remember correctly ) and not too far from you in the geat scheme of things !

Bset wishes

Malc

Many thanks for the fast reply, I am happy soldering the caps, just stuck on the ribbon cable issue.

Cheers mate

I think you should be able to get a replacement from a scrapper. Without seeing it, it's difficult to be specific but I'm assuming it will be possible to unsolder the offending item and resolder the replacement back in. No doubt it will require magnification and a fine point soldering iron.
