Brake Seized

Recommended Posts

Evening all,

Last night on a gentle drive out to a comedy gig I got major steering wobble. I quickly pulled over to look for what I thought would be a flat tyre.

I found the passenger front wheel to be smoking. The front caliper was seized onto the disc.

I managed to whip the wheel of and 'bray' the pots back into the caliper enough to free the wheel off and carry on my journey with minimal braking.

I have greased the pistons and worked them back and forth with a set of clamps. A trip out later will see how much good I have done.

Any other idea's for freeing them off or have I done the right thing??

Thanks in advance

James

Check the slide pins also, they are a very common issue. There are a couple of tutorials in my signature regarding calipers and slide pins. Although they are done on my old mk1 GS, the IS setup is the same.
