Help With Brakes

Hey Guys

I will need to be changing the front discs and pads and rear pads on my IS220, any recommendations as to what type of brakes to fit, I'm not entirely convinced that the genuine ones are that good, so if anyone can recommend some uprated ones i would much appreciate it.

I started looking into this as I fear the same for mine when lexus have it for a service next month. If they do mention replacing discs I was looking to replace with EBC parts all round. I totalled the parts to around £350 in the hope they will last longer than ~40k miles.

No physical experience with it yet, though.

Ive got m-tec drilled and grooved discs with EBC RedStuff.

Sadly, the m-tec discs did not appreciate the sheer brutality of RedStuff. And from my experience, RedStuff pads were far too squealing for my ears.

Because m-tec discs are reasonably priced, and I like their disc style, I wanted to continue using them so I replaced warped discs but this time with EBC GreenStuff. These are more or less an OEM upgrade, far less brake dust than OEM and noticeable breaking acheivement. Also I had not yet experienced any brake vibration with this setup, as I did with RedStuff.

I would be interested to hear what others have used in the IS range.

I have my pads and discs since new (74.000kms) but 2 months ago I had an emergency downhill stop from about 80kph with no-breaks trailer (weight about 500kg)* and now, when braking harder, the discs vibrate. So I am about to change discs soon. My mechanic says that original toyota parts are very good quality, but the price

I rarely listen to Lexus when they tell me "I have to" and quote me a price. I prefer it when they ask me. Having stated that to them they actually advised me what needed to be done to the car, giving me the option to find the best deals.

That's why I went aftermarket. After quotes on discs and pads I started to wonder whether the Lexus was an investment at all. But with the m-tec discs and GreenStuff pads I'm chuffed. The pads have taken nearly 800 miles to break in but that's because ive been doing a bit of city driving lately.

I've heard that the Mintex pads are exceptionally good. But the problem I've run in to is, once you get pads that offer next to no break dust, you never want to go back!
