I'm thinking of changing my car and upgrading to a second hand RX400h for around £30k. My local dealer is offering £6,500 for my 06 IS220d Sport. Does that sound fair? It has no multimedia and 68k miles.

Hmm thanks. I was expecting more like 10k based on examples on the Lexus website. They must be making a big profit on them.

That is the dealers sale price. That price includes a bit of room for negotiation, plus 1 year warranty (around £795), plus any work they have to do to return the car to showroom condition, plus obviously their profit. They normally give you £3K or £4K less than their expected sale price to allow for all of the above.

You should ring several dealers to confirm the prices but most likely it won't vary too much.

Try selling your car to an independant garage or car supermarket first, these places have less profit in their retail cars so are able to offer a better price. From previous experience Evans Halshaw offer good prices and would want a car like yours. The same with small independant garages, they would love a Lexus for their stock, i'm sure.

Thanks both. After the replies I thought about selling it privately but then decided I couldn't be bothered with the hassle and time it would take so took the hit on the trade-in price. I tried another Lexus dealer and got offered the same and found a good condition/low mileage rx400h. Sad to see the IS220d go as its such an awesome car but now it's a done deal.
