Low Eng Oil Level

Hi all,

Since I bought it, my car (periodically) flashes up low engine oil level....even though the level is OK. The previous owner said he took the sensor out and cleaned it and that stopped it for a while.

Well, I reckon I need to either give it another claen or replace it.

My question is, where is the sensor and what does it look like. Is it just like a crankshaft position sensor or something?

Is it a warning of low oil level, or low oil pressure? If the latter, the sensor may be working fine.

Its on the front of the block somewhere and a new one is £165 + vat :o

Its under the alternator - a square grey type connector

I have these available if this is your problem

its not too bad - few 10mm bolts and then you pull the attached arm and float up out of the sump [ as far as I remember ]
