I have recently bought a lexus is 220d and from cold the car idles at 1200rpm. This will remain until the car is up to full normal operating temperature.

This can often take 15 minutes before temp is reached and idle drops back to 800rpm.

is this normal to stay high for so long?

Cheers carl

...Think I found the answer to my own question using the search button- lol

it seems that having the heater fan on causes the revs to rise until the engine reaches optimum temperature.

I tested this and it is definitely the case, his strange.

Anyway, at least I know.
