No problem,I'm nice to everyone :D

I like the MkIV front end better with the different modern look headlight units (plus they are HID as standard) but the orange indicators are replaceable, mine are the dark smoked ones.

There is a series IV on fleabay but it's a complete wreck with paint and bodywork problems to start with.

The thing is to take your time to find a good one for the money,it's a buyers market and big engined cars aren't selling.

Out of the 3 I see on fleabay this looks the best although I would never bid before looking but it is a series 4 with DHP wheels (which as mentioned previously corrode so will need a refurb) FSH and only 2 owners which is normally a good sign and a dealer part ex.

If you are thinking of this car from these people take my advice and go and see the car drive it and make sure you go over it with a fine tooth comb.

Mike

PS Would love to know what it went through the Blackbushe Car Auctions for.

Certainly worth consideration .. my 1st concern would be

1. How easy to insure an import

2. What does sat nav & TV in "japanese" mean .. I would not be able to use in English?

3. Would speedo require changing from KM to Miles?

4. Southampton is a long way for me (but not out the question)

thanks Steve.

1) Mainstream insurers generally won't cover "Grey Imports" but there are specialists that do,my premiums are around the same as a UK spec Model,it all depends what it says on the V5C :whistling:

2) The TV system is Japan is different to the UK (NTSC-PAL) so the TV won't work without modification (can be done) or replacing the unit with a UK spec one,Sat Nav may be possible to change the disc for UK/European maps.

3) Mine is converted but I don't think it is a legal requirement to convert but it's fairly cheap to do so if not already done, also bear in mind that JDM models have a 180KPH speed restriction (113MPH) which is normally disabled when the speedo is converted.

4) Travelling to Southampton could be difficult if the roads are busy!

JDM models also have no requirement for the rear fog lights so have to be retrofit, dependant on the quality of the job some look good (mine are integrated into the existing clusters whilst some look rubbish (the single one fastened to the lower bumper!)

Imported models tend to have lower mileages than an equivalent UK model as they are driven on the islands only and the weather is kinder to the metal.Down side is no service history normally so careful inspection/interogation is essential.

The one on fleabay that Steve has put a link to has the DHP wheels - and presumably the lowered suspension that also goes with the DHP pack. I think it looks nicer but it's not the most important consideration.

I would get the mileage checked out on the DVLA site as the steering wheel looks well worn for the mileage stated.

My steering wheel is unmarked after 230,000 miles. My car also has the DHP wheels, although it does not have the suspension to match. IMHO I think the DHP wheels are the nicest looking factory wheels you can get for the 400.

I think it may be 100,000 miles but personally I would change at 60,000 miles to be a the safe side and include as well as the idlers/tensioner the water pump.

Are we still talking about this one. My link because if we are I would still get the DVLA check on the mileage as that steering wheels is far to badly worn for the amount of miles stated.

That looks like a piece of the underskirt of the front end, due to goi8ng over speed bumps probably. I try to avoid straddling thess bumps in my MK IV DHP as they are lower slung than the standard MK IV, and slwoly go over them with the tyre.

It'd be interesting to see the servicing intervals. I agree on your observation about the steering wheel though - mine is 190,000 miles and still looks fine.

Quick question on your ad - what do you mean by trade sale? Are you a trader only selling to another trader? Or a trader selling to a retail customer - if the latter surely it is a retail sale?
