Rx300 Quarterlight Trim

Recommended Posts

Hello, new to this forum, but frustration getting the better of me..

Has any solved the solution of replacing the plastic cover trim which finishes off the rear quarterlight.

I have have had a daft response from my lexus dealer of £165,which they say has to include the quarterlight glass too.

Having explained to them that there is nothing wrong with the glass, and its just that someone has had a go a pulling it off and broken a part of it off, they insist that the trim is not available seperately.

It's obvious (to me anyway), that the trim is simply a push on cover trim, colour matched to the paint, but is plastic and is relatively cheap to produce, but why bundle it with a quarterlight glass, so that the price becomes silly.

Frankly I cannot see why a lexus dealer would take out a perfectly good piece of glass and replace it with another...or perhaps they would simply discard the new glass anyway, and simply fit the trim, but charge me a ridiculous price in the bargain.

Anyone a better route to a solution please?

Hi Ken,

I can't believe it but I'm looking for exactly the same stick on trim bit..... is it RHS?

Again my stealer asked me for about the same price to replace a whole window, which is not needed. It makes me wonder if there are more of us out there with this problem due to a design fault. (My trim just came off on a journey)

Let me know if you find a solution eh?!

Regards,

Buzz.

I suppose that if you had left your car in a car park and came back to find that somebody had smashed your rear quater light glass with a hammer then could claim on your windscreen/glass cover and not lose your no claims bonus.

Just be careful where you park it.

hello Buzz...yep thats the offending bit.....

I recently tried to mount some kind of green issue protest to Lexus UK HQ.... via their "customer support" people....you get the picture... some dumb twit, sitting in an office, pasting pre-prepared replies to an e-mail, just to make their day easier. When this dimwit started to refer to the lenses in the quarterlight, I told him/her to go back and tell the morons that they had supposedly spoken in their so called technical dept, that a quarterlight was well known motoring term apertaining to a part of a window...Groan..

I was attempting to put Lexus into an acknowledgement that to bundle the plastic bit with a piece of glass, so as to rachet up the price, and then expect to throw it away was not good in todays environmentally sensitive climate.

Regrettably their stamina in preparing clueless answers was stronger than mine, flipping me back to my local dealer so I gave up, but I still maintain that if the glass is unbroken then it is a total rip off to have to buy a new piece, and even more infuriating is the expectancy to have to pay a glazing specialist to fit it.........!!!!

There must be a growing market for these trims, perhaps we ought to send one off to some Chinese injection moulder,,,heh heh

Time to break out the hammer..?

best wishes in your quest

Ken

Hi Ken,

Just spotted your reply and I totally agree with your sentiments...... what a rip off!

I did find a couple of RX300's being broken up for spares and after many attempts to get the part I gave up. No responses etc. I'll keep my eyes open for another breaker locally.

Cheers,

Kevin.

Nearly lost the exact same piece of trim down the motorway a few weeks ago, luckily for me(reading this thread about the price)it hung on until i pulled over and i stuck it back on later with a few drops of silicone sealant (it wont come off again!)seems yet another case of being ripped off,the linkage bar on the ride height adjuster broke on my rx its a piece of 4mm threaded bar 100mm long to any normal person.

But to a lexus dealer it's only available with the ride height sensor for £360!!! i fixed it myself in the end. I do like my car but i doubt i'll buy another one.I bought it because lexus apparently top the poles in reliability and customer satisfaction ? im not sure who they're asking :winky:

Hi Guys

Yup, same issue for me on my 05 RX300. I see the American guys have managed to pressure their network into goodwill changes. Any body managed to do this here? Or has anyone managed to find a supplier of the trim only.

Cheers
