Watching Dvd While Driving:)How?is 250 Se-L

Recommended Posts

Hello everybody!

I've got is 250 SE-L ,on the last service I have asked if they can remove security option so we could watch dvd's when driving ,they said they knew how to do this but they can't because of driver's and other people safety.

Anybody knows how to remove the lock so we can watch dvds when driving??

Apparently it is easy to do it.

thanks in advance :winky:

I'm new here & perhaps this is the done thing on this site, but I'm also a biker and this really makes my blood boil!! You lot are bad enough with food, phones and passengers, let alone watching bloody films whilst you're not looking at who you're trying to kill!! :tsktsk:

I am sorry for asking MR PERFECT !!take a few deep breaths before you explode!Take it easy dude ,the one who preaches about the food, phones, etc.Statisticly dude bikers cause more road accidents than anybody else..Anyway when you drive car you have to carefully watch side mirrors before someone will overtake you 130mph!So take it easy dude!

Biker accidents typically involve right of way violations by cars or are single vehicle accidents (bike going too fast and crashing all by themselves). You're trying to watch television whilst driving - does it really strike you as sensible?

I was gonna ask similar BUT it's not for me to watch more so for passenger.

I have been told it is possible - though lexus wont do it obviously. Any Car audio specialist will do it ....it's a connection to the handbrake that needs disabling.

Some of the map features are also disabled when driving on the Sat nav

Don't do it. Apart from being bloody silly, you'll invalidate your insurance (they check for this kind of thing) and leave the poor sod you run into up the creak too. Lexus isolate you enough from the outside world as it is without you trying to turn the car into your front room!

Not any more !,with canbus they normally take a speed pulse, that's why the sat nav is disabled as well.

Bit harsh isn't it? Who exactly are you referring to as 'You lot"? Many of people on this forum, including me, are bikers or ex-bikers and would not dream of disabling that particular nanny feature on the car  (and yes, I do know how to) .

Lexus have changed the software to allow re-programming of the SatNav on the move, which is a risk, but not so great as idiots still using hand held mobiles, despite the illegality of doing so.

works both ways, there are sensible and not so sensible bikers the same with car drivers, as far as i'm concerned an inconsiderate motorist is an inconsiderate motorist, doesn't matter how many wheels they have underneath them, I pretty much keep my distance from everyone else on the road these days

as for a passenger watching a dvd in the car, get a portable unit for £50 ish

"You lot"? I'm an ex-biker and have been knocked off by a driver who wasn't paying attention but I wouldn't tar all drivers with the same brush, anyway.

I can't imagine anything worse as a passenger to watch a DVD whilst in a car, cricked neck for one. And as for driving whilst a DVD is playing, not a good idea. Enjoy the drive and chat to your passenger whilst listing to Radio 4, a much more pleasant experience.

The only reason I would want to enable DVDs while driving is so I can play DVD Audio (sound quality is amazing).

DVD Audio will play whilst driving, its only the screen that blanks out when vehicle moving so visuals can't be viewed.

I know, but the problem is not being able to access the DVD menu to select/change songs. You can sometimes change songs by changing chapters, but it doesn't work with some DVD menu structures.

I'll do 15k a year on a bike (currently a Ducati MTS 1200) and I find your comments a bit harsh. Many big bikes have Satnav systems that allow you to input data on the move, listen to music and make phone calls (even accessing you phonebook). I know because I have to do it myself all the time but always with great care and attention.

I also have a IS250c and access to the satnav whilst on the trot is what I need (I have to admit, watching movies on the move is more than a little irresponsible). Can anyone help me with what I need to do to activate this function ?

Thanks

I thought the IS250 had a hard drive? If so I can't help, but if it still runs on disc then you need to purchase the later discs from 2009 on or borrow one to load, as once that's done the software change is permanent to allow changes on the move, even when you put your old disc back in.

Thanks Tango, the cars still new and I'd not tried the sat nav out properly, just assumed it was like my 4 year old IS220d

Wow this was a bit of a heated topic,

Well to add fuel to all the fires I've managed to do a DVD bypass and also extrace the video signal to run 2 rear screens.

The DVD bypass will also enable you to access all the Phone options whilst driving and all the Navigation controls such as entering a new route or re the phone choose a new number to dial.

Of course I would reccomend the passanger do all this as they are the ones who will be watching the DVD on the move. The Speed pulse does indeed block the screen from working but this modification also bypasses that.

When the switch is turned off the car is in Full standard factory mode and the dealer will not have / find any issues with this.

Infact this very IS250 we did was for the head service tech of the Local Lexus dealership.

Hope you enjoy!!! ;) ;)

and a few pictures can be found of the set up here!!

Thats pretty awesome. Could I ask how much a set up like that would cost please? Is it possible on a 2006 model also?

Cheers

(im off to check out your website now!)

Just want to point out that it is illegal to have a TV or video screen operating within a drivers sight whilst driving, it's already law..

It is not only seriously illegal with penalties that stretch up to custodial sentences (and rightly so) to operate an entertainment video screen within view of the driver of a moving vehicle, but also illegal to install or cause to be installed any means to do this. It is perhaps unfortunate that Dalcocaraudio have publicly stated here they have done just that.

A little more work on the Hardware/Software to blank just the front screen when the vehicle is moving and DVDs are playing would make it safe for everyone, is common sense and would protect installers and drivers from prosecution.
