Firstly please accept my appologies if the answer to my question is in a thread somewhere but I've not been able to find it. To top it all off the pc is playing up so stuck using the browser on my phone and search is not available for some reason.

My question is, has anyone experienced a clicking sound coming from front suspension area during slow manouvering and did they manage to find the culprit?

I have jacked her up and looked for issues and not found anything but expect that due to no weight on the suspension.

The sound is definately a clicking rather than clunking and is like click click click click with half to one second between clicks.

I'm really sorry if the answer is on the forum somewhere but I just can't find it.

Much thanks for your patience.

Does this happen only when the brakes are gently applied or at all times? Have you checked for a broken spring?

Also is there anything stuck between the disc and the splashshield or around the ABS speed sensor/toothed wheel?

Totally off the wall but do you use stick on weights ? On the alloys. If one came loose it does click as I found out. Not enough clearance between calliper and alloy on front pair.

Just a thought.

Steve.

Thanks for the replies, very much appreciated.

I cant see any broken parts when I inspected both front suspension units as I checked all these before I asked on here as i dont want to waste peoples time. Ive read through various forums going back years and there seems to be lots of different opinions on the cause.

The clicking mainly seems to happen when slow maneuvering especially in reversing from driveway which obviously tends to use brakes but im sure ive heard it when not using brakes too. I am going to reinvestigate the caliper pins as suggested on other threads and then its onto replacing top control arms if brake refurb doesnt fix it. The brakes all seem in good nick and have loads of life left in them. Cant seem to get undue movement on bushings when using a lever but this may be mute due to no load whilst jacked up.

The brakes are all clear and no stuck stones etc. All wheel balance weights are firmly stuck on so its not that.

As a matter of interest has anyone bought upper control arms from eBay that arent crap ones, again I have been scared off by some other thread stating that one particular company seemed to be selling old cleaned ones!!

Cheers for any ideas.

Pete

Hello as to the eBay control arms, they are cheap from china & the quality is very poor, if you google ls 400 control arms you can see they retail at $16 if you buy 10 or more. Your better off getting a set from the states apx $200 + postage or cheap toyota parts (£400 a pair when they get them back in stock). I Have put my original arms with worn bushes back on with 145k on them after having a cheap eBay pair fail after 15,000 miles.

You may well find that removing and lubricating the front stabilizer bar bushes does the trick. It's quick and easy to do and is a freebie fix. Only two bolts each side, and if you have the right length socket extension bar you don't even have to remove the drip tray! Some people have got lucky by spraying WD-40 or suchlike on the bushes; I wasn't so fortunate and had to take mine right off. They were quite dry, and a copious smearing of silicone grease on there before reassembly fixed the creaking. Refer to lexls.com.
