Why No Sunroof?

Having borrowed a demonstrator for the weekend, I think the CT200h is delightful and would be a worthy replacement for my IS200, but for one thing. Can someone please explain why a sunroof is not available on this car?

A sunroof is available in most other countries but not in the UK it seems. Have a look at the UK brochure pages 16/17 and again page 24 – a sunroof is shown.

I have also looked into having one fitted by a specialist firm and have so far been unsuccessful.

Lexus in the UK are quite weird about spec, I believe once they made it an option on the IS barely anyone selected it and presume that was the reason it's been left off the CT completely to bring costs down.

However given how much they charge for the CT I think it's a bit ridiculous.

I agree, no sunroof will stop me from buying one, I looked at all the cars on sale at Lexus Milton Keynes this week only 3 had sunroofs, 1 RX and 2 LSs, used to be they all had sunroof but the "dont need coz it has air con " argument does not wash with me, I allways prefer to sit in the sun not shade, and feel less boxed in even with the glass roof closed.

I must admit that I cannot see the point of sunroofs with air con, it defeats the object doesn't it? Air con will not work well with an open window or sunroof surely? Ok, the extra light is nice, but it's a lot of money for a bit of light. :)

Plus the reduction in headroom, which is something I always have trouble with in cars with sunroofs

I remember my first car that had an electric sunroof and I was pleased with it. However, I found that I never really used it that much as when tilted open, it never really made much difference and winding the windows down a bit was much more effective, and when it was slid open, I would get burnt with the sun shining on me! B)

I had the sunroof in my RX and although nice to have was never essential and the lack of a sunroof would never put me off buying a car, especially one that is as great to drive as a Lexus!

I have to agree that with air conditioning, a sunroof isn’t really needed and opening a window gives plenty of air movement when needed. My sole reason for wanting a sunroof is simply to let more light into a car which, let's be honest, has a very dark interior.

Going back now to my original post. We actually had the demonstrator for a long weekend and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, especially when I noticed after nearly 400 miles of very mixed motoring I had averaged 58mpg. We spoke with the salesman and agreed on what the specification should be on our new CT200h and when it should be ready etc.

But it was when we got back into our IS200 which we have had since new 9 years ago that we started to have doubts. Everything was so much lighter in the IS, the windows are larger than the CT, and of course the IS doesn’t have that dreadful “privacy glass” in the rear.

I have cancelled my order, a nice enough car but too claustrophobic for us in its present form.

Yes, I know once you have a car with a sunroof it does make others without one seem a bit dull, although I don't have a problem with that myself. Good point about the privacy glass, it does seem to be an odd thing to have as standard. That was good mpg, mine is still averaging around the 50pmg mark but most of my driving is very short runs. When I do go on a longer trip it does get up to about the same as you quoted.

I have a Lexus CT200h and driving at a steady 60mph and smoothly, light braking and gentle steering have easily achieved 70mpg in ECO mode. Over the last 20 plus years I have always bought Toyota and although achieved just as good mpg the Lexus is a class car.
