100K Full Service

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Just been quoted £1037.56 for the full 100k service on my 8 year old RX300 from my local Lexus main dealer. I think it's time to break my 100% Lexus main dealer service history !!! especially since the car is getting on a bit, but is in excellent condition and I plan to hold on to it for a fair while yet.

My local Bosch approved garage have quoted £320-£340 and they have said that they will be getting most of the parts from Lexus.

Just thought I would share this with you.

Cheers

OMG!!!!

Thats incredible - its making me think twice about buying RX400/450 as I would probably have to buy high miles but theres no way on earth that I would pay over £1000 for a service!!!

In all the 8 years I have had the Lexus, I have never had a service quoted at such a high price. I did this via email when I was on the train, so I have not yet spoken to them to ask WHY it so high. Maybe it's a misprint.....but I am guessing it is not. I for one cannot justify spending that amount on a service for a 8 year old car, surely Lexus must be mad trying to charge such prices. I remember prior to owning this, I was with Jeep for about 10 years, they were also expensive, mainly due to Jeep being relativley new in the UK at that time, but as the car got older, they at least had a different servicing pricing matrix for the older Jeeps, which is a good marketing plan to keep as many Jeeps in their care, no matter how old they are, maybe Lexus should look at doing something like this, but I think they assume that if you own a Lexus, you have loads of disposable cash !!!!!!!!

I was due a 60K service this year and was quoted £600 from the Lexus dealer. Ended up spending £300 at a prestige car specialist in Milton Keynes.

Lexus just wouldnt budge on the price - all they could suggest was some kind of monthly subscription to a service plan - guess if a service schedule is backed up by some kind of saving scheme you know it isnt going to be cheap!

Doubt I will use Lexus service again TBH, as the Milton Keynes specialist were good to deal with & half the price.

As a matter of interest, who did you use? I've got a s/h RX400H, and although I won't need a service for a while, MK Lexus would have been the logical choice for me until I read this!

Lexus service costs are plain odd

The list price can differ by 30pc between dealers. I went uround the London dealers looking at service costs for the next 3 services for my 350 and they varied wildly

What didnt vary as much was the service plans which was around 1200 for the next 3 services 40,50 and 60k including the three mots. Which from memory equated to a discount of around 40pc. Given I have taken out the extended warranty I need the lexis service and it makes for fewer argument s later if anything goes wrong. The normal services aren't too bad but the 60k is a plug change which I believe is not an easy job and involves partial dismemberment of the engine!!!!

Had too many iffy times with so called specialists and bluntly an average of 350 per service ex mot is good value to me especially as it will be more resalable with a main dealer service history.

Hi, just one more question on the high price quoted by Lexus for my 100K service. Is it so high because the cam belt is due to be changed ? I would appreciate feedback on this, as maybe this is why my local garage is so cheap and they do not know about the cam belt change at 100k. Does the cam belt need to be changed ?

Thanks

Well the service display can be set manually at any time so it proves nothing. That said, it would take a very deliberate act of deceit to alter it, and if they were going to do that they'd surely have wound the odometer back to 70K! Or maybe it's done 150K - only joking!

Afraid I'm unsure if Lexus has central database of service history. I believe Audi does. Can you trace the dealer from any items like window stickers, number plate logos or tax disc holder? Why not ring the previous owner?

Don't recall reading about cam-belt change, but a quick search turned up this:- http://www.lexusowne...=1

That was a 400 though, and I'm unsure how closely related the engines are. I'd ask the dealer to be 100% sure, or post a query here with that as a heading. Perhaps it's lurking in my handbook, but I'm mid 60s at moment (car not me, quite!) so perhaps I had better start saving.

Ha ha , only 150k miles these will do 300k so i have a low miler car... Mot have all checked out, out car was owned by big company from new except last year before i got it so thats all right. just cam belt, i will ring lexus or maybe in manual.. cheers

I believe cambelt change on an rx300 is at 100,000 miles

My RX300 is due its 100k service in 6 months. At the previous service I asked Lexus Leeds about the 100k one. I was told that in addition to the standard 'major' service, the cam belt has to be changed at a cost of approximately £400.

The cost of the standard service can be reduced to £279 by using Lexus Essential Care that is available for cars over 5 years old. Follow this link:

http://www.lexus.co.uk/owners/lexuscare/service-your-lexus/essential-care-service-plans.aspx

So the total cost of the 100k service would be around £700 which considering the cam belt change isn't bad. I was planning to get rid of the car thinking that the service would be well north of £1k but now I might keep it longer as it's been extremely reliable over the 10 years I've had it.

The service manager also implied that the second-hand value of cars which haven't had the cam belt replaced is reduced.

I dont think thats too bad - my 60,000 service cost £600 without a cam belt change!! (had two tyers instead).

Useful info for me as I am looking for an RX400/450 and will probably have to look at a higher mileage one!!

I know a great independent Lexus Specialist in Sidcup called Tech-One who look after all the Lexus/Toyota cars in the family. You also get a Lexus stamp in the book aswell.

Hello,

I have a LS430 and last December I had the 10yr/100k service done, this includes the cambelt change, at Lexus Wolverhampton at a cost of £516 which I thought was brilliant. A fellow club member could not quite match that price but had the same job done at Lexus Birmingham for just over £600. I would have thought the cost would be similar for the RX. It pays to shop around as said earlier and don't be hesitant in asking for a discount. Times are hard and they want/need your custom.

I was unaware of this "other" Lexus main dealer service option, shame they did not at least mention it to me !! I discussed this with them today, they will not budge on the original quote of over £1000 and the Lexus Essential Care Major Service can be done for £279 and the cambelt about another £500, so it is cheaper this way.....BUT, I was informed that this MAJOR service under the Lexus Essential Care Plan does NOT include ALL the parts which would normally be replaced on the "proper" major service as detailed by Lexus GB AND they will not stamp the service book....what a load of tosh, they come up with a plan to keep people like me with older models and then throw in that they will not stamp the service book. I am waiting for a quote from my local garage to do the cambelt, but I fear most places will be expensive, albeit cheaper than Lexus. So inshort, if I want the service book stamped, I will have to pay another £200+ on top of the service and cambelt. Does anyone know anywhere in the Reading/Wokingham area who will do Cambelts ? Cheers

In one of those let's waste some time moments today whilst waiting for glue to dry, I thought I would add up the invoices that came with my car(LS400) These are just the ones that I have, they total £14000 that's about £777 per year! Most were from Lexus and Toyota including one wheel replacement at £460 and the most expensive service at £1125. Needless to say that doesn't happen anymore!

Phil
