i am lookin at options

#1 can i self install

#2 can i self tune

#3 which chip will give me most power and tuning options

someone posted a wiring diagramme to make your own

any ideas?

looking at fitting this last because it would need to be re calibrated after each mod

now then last of all can i change settings on the fly with either of thease

and will it tell me if my manifold is about to fail? just before the floor pan falls off my car

last bit was a joke

What's your knowledge of Engine Calibration and Engine Calibration Strategies? and do you have the hardware to comunicate with the PCM.

Is there something I'm missing here?

Why would one want to be able to downtune the performances and the better fuel efficiency of a good "customisable" chip? If a chip is properly set for a specific engine, I don't think that I would(even if I could) want to fiddle with it. I don't see the use for that? Can someone fill me in on this?

It DOES however looks impressive if you got like a laptop with a way-to-flashy-looking tuning proggy, plugged in to your car's nerve system :D but then again...I'm more an oldskool kinda guy who prefers clean & effectiveness over screaming, flashy and "hip" *****.

i have no knowledge on the subject , but would like to learn and that is why

i am asking questions

If your priority is to do any tuning yourself, the only system that allows free use of the software is the Greddy Emanage. Don't forget you will also have to procure all of the diagnostic equipment as well, and rent a dyno.

I posted some information regarding the technical differences on Zee's thread last week, if that's of any use.

  • 3 weeks later...

:nuke: UK standard spec IS 200 SE red lines in 6th at 139 MPH ( GPS true) yet pedal has got a way to go before the floor.

So yeah I can agree with those who might want to change the engine mapping. Makes me think that the Toyata engine jockeys were more concerned with beating the on paper specs of the BMW 318i SE at the time.

It's irrelevant that the pedal has more travel left - it's a 'fly by wire' anyway so there is no 'direct' correlation between the depression of the pedal and the revs.

The speed is limited by the gearing and the redline. You're only going to get more top speed by adjusting the gearing or the rev limiter.

A chip will better tune the air/fuel mixture thus improving power (and efficiency probably) meaning the car will feel more responsive. It's also useful to have a chip to remap everything according to any mods meaning you are maximising their effect, but it's not something that in itself is going to do that much...

;) Doh!!

Yep that would explain it. Forgot about the FBW and how it works.

Still wonder why the performance characteristics are set for a such a high top end when better mid range and acceleration would be better

the car was concieved to compete with the BMW and cruise the autobahns

 Yep would agree with the BMW/ Autobahn theory....'cept it didn't seem to work too well.

Just completed 3 weeks touring through Germany/ Switzerland and Italy and you could have counted the Lexus models on the fingers of one thumb.

Still it was nice to feel just that little bit more exclusive :winky:
